SS TERRACE BAY NEWS ANGLICAN WOMEN PLAN TEA Schreiber Anglican Church Women, at April meeting re-. cently, planned a Dessert Tea as the Mother's Day event this 'year to be held May 10 from |3-5 in the church hall. Home- |baking and a bazaar table will 'be added: attractions, Mrs. Alvin Slater was appoint- ed delegate to the annual ACW meeting in Huntsville on April 29-30. A donation was made to the Sunday school supply fund. Mrs. Ralph Morrill and Mrs. J. D. Bryson were named hos- tesses for the May meeting. Mrs. A. C. Rigelsford pre- sided for the meeting held in the church hall. Lunch was served by Mrs. Cyril Sparkes and Mrs. Rigelsford. JOHN SMITH MPP VISITED SCHREIBER HIGH John Smith MPP, Hamilton Mountain, visited Sch- reiber high school this week, speaking on the Settle- ment of Povingnikuk in Arctic Quebec, where 600 people are involved in transistion from one culture to another, and showed a film of the settlement. They are justly proud of what they have accomplished al- ready - arranging to sell their own carvings, a most lucrative business, managing their Co-op store, Credit Union, banking system and establishing a thriving Guide and Tourist business . Mr. Smith was impressed by the lively, inquiring minds, their pertinent questions a clear indication of a new breed of voters about to emerge, with an un- derstanding and sysmpathy for others' problems, both local and further away. Mr. Smith was introduced by B.C. Stewart, school principal, and Cos Filane, local YPC, president and thanked by Cos Commisso, one of the students . During the evening the Young Progressive Conserv- atives held a meeting in the Roman Catholic parish centre, where various matters were discussed. CATHY FIGLIOMENI BRIDE ELECT Miss Cathy Figliomeni, bride-elect for April 19th. was honored by her friends at a shower tea arranged in the Guild Hall, when her mother, Mrs. Frank Figliomeni, and Mrs. Tony Commisso received with her. The servitors were the Misses Marilyn Cook, Rose- mary Speziale and Teresa Figliomeni , and Mesdames Dominic Figliomeni, Con Duggan, and Cos Figliomeni Replenishing were Mesdames Arnold O'Keefe, Bill Cook, Jim Speziale and Joe Costa. Mrs. Lillian Christie has returned from Toronto where | she spent the past three weeks with Mr. and Mrs. 4 Michael Dorken her daughter Judy. ' Lester McCuaig has returned home after spending a month and half with his brother Lionel in Dawson Creek, B.C. Mrs. Mike Cosgrove is in McKellar Hospital, William. . Mrs. Peter Sparkes has received word that her sister Nellie, Mrs. Joe Molinski, with many friends in Schreiber, is recovering after surgery in St. Paul's Hospital, Vancouver. # Fort C.W.L. EXECUTIVE NOMINATED After consideration of a private bill being pre- sented to the legislature by Eli Martell, N.D.P. member from Sudbury, on the matter of school taxes and mixed marriages, the C.W.L., at their regular April meeting agreed to ask Jack Stokes MPP to use | his influence in the matter. A donation was made to the Cancer Society. A letter was drafted to Dr. Dymond Minister of Health | regarding some misunderstanding'in the Medical Service to Schreiber. The service of the Doctors in Terrace Bay are not available except by the patient going to Terrace Bay. The doctors are not permitted to come to Schreiber being Company doctors and on constant call to Terrace Bay residents. The doctors have always been most co-operative and anxious to help Schreiber patients and the hospital may be used by out-of-town patients if beds are available. Mrs. Ann Banning spiritual convenor read a poem : of Kindness and reminded members of the Mass on April 26th and also of the daily Rosary at 2 p.m. which is held during the month of May. ' Mrs. Lila Morrow Education Convenor read a letter of appreciation from the Scarborough Mission. for a donation of used stamps and jewelry. The letter described in humorous fashion the ways in which the donation can be disposed of to raise funds. Mrs. lrene Borutski, reported on Resolutions and also on local municipal council meeting. Mrs. Rita McGrath social welfare strongly recom- mended that the members take the Christopher Lead- ership Course. Mrs. Elsi Wills reported collecting and distributing clothing and other necessities to needy people. Mrs. B. Ryan of the Catholic Girls Club said the ceremony of the Crowning of the Bles- sed Virgin Mary is planned for May with the entire club to take part, also a decision to have the annual banquet this year for members only, in Restaurant LeBlanc in J June.
