Vol. 12, No. 11 BETTER COLOR ON TV FROM CBC RESEARCH The CBC expects better reception of color film programms on TV from a research project recently com pleted by its engineers, according to Home Goods Re- tailing, weekly housefurnishing newspaper . This project, conducted over the past two years, employed a McGill University computer programmed to calculate errors for a number of film test colors in: certain types of TV cameras. RECREATION TIPS Snowmobile accidents and fatalities continue to pile up in Ontario. Eight more deaths have occured in the past two weeks since the last report on this subject was made public by the Ontario Safety League. Six of these fatalities occurred while snowmobiles were being operated on public thoroughfares, one happening af night during off-highway operation, and the remaining fatality being a drowning. To the League's knowledge the total number of snowmobile deaths in Ontario dur- ing the current season is now up to twenty-nine. An estimate of non-fatal accidents while operating snow- mobiles would be close to 300 for the current season. The above figures represent known fatal accidents and the non-fatal accident figure is estimated. The latter may be low as the accepted ratio of fatal to non-fatal accidents is 1 to 29. If this theory held true for snow- mobiling, the number of non-fatal accidents would be in the area of eight or nine hundred. This may well be true as the vast majority of snowmobjle accidents are not reported. Serving the District LIVE and WORK THE SAFE WAY March 13, 1969 UPHOLSTERY COURSE A SUCCESS A very successful upholstery workshop was held last weekend, with Mr. Littleford of the Chester- field House in the Lakehead acting as instructor. We originally had an indication from thirty people that they would like to attend this'workshop but, due to changes in circumstances, only ten people actually took this course. However, according to their reports, each per- son felt this workshop was well worthwhile. Those taking part were - Mr.and Mrs. Ted Brown, Mrs. A.Baron, Mrs. E.Sarenpaa, Mrs. F .Leibrock', Mr. R. Scowen, Mrs. A.Crockford, Mrs. H. Lohr and Mrs. Eva Connors. LADIES AFTERNOON RECREATION PLANNED The final touches are being applied to the Shuffleboard courts in the large meeting room, (meeting room No.1), and this room should be ready for operation on Monday of next week.
