Of 600 accidental poisonings reported to the Windsor poison control centre this year, none has been attri- buted to prescription items. Previously, such items accounted for 25% of all reported poisonings in the under-five-years-old group. Essex County medical and pharmacists associations sponsored a program for developing a new safe container for tablet and cap- sule prescription medications, International Tools Ltd., a Windsor manufacturer of automotive parts and molds for plastic products came up with Palm-N- Turn, a child-proof plastic container and closure. The container has six lugs inside the cap which fit into six notches in the neck of the vial. The bottle can only be opened by pressing down on the cap and turning it with the palm of the hand--easy for an adult but baffling for most infant children. Next project is to develop a safe liquid container; liquids form 20% of the prescription market in Essex County. ON OCTOBER 17th.
