ANNUAL HORTICULTURAL SHOW SUCCESSFUL A deserving winner, Mrs. Alice Farrow, again led the field with her display of prize winning flowers shown at last Saturday's Annual Horticultural Flower and Vegetable Show. Recipient of the Grand Agg- regate Award Trophy donated by the Township of Terrace Bay, Mrs. Farrow had 23 first prizes, |2 seconds and 5 thirds. Hermes who received the Gem Texaco $10.00 award and John Steen was given the Neil Duncan Award for his gladiolus entry. Mrs. H.Landry was the lucky door prize winner and received $50. worth of fuel oil donated by Shell Oil Dealer, R. Sinotte. Inclement weather on show day cut down attend- ance a bit but the poor growing season did not noticeably reduce the number and quality of entries . Entry judge was Mr. Fred MacDonald of Fort William and show chairman were Messrs. Henry Hermes and John Steen. In the Junior Gardeners Division, twenty-nine children ranging in age from 8 to 16 were entered. In the 8-11 group Alan Dorland was first and re- ceived the Local 665 Trophy and a watch. Gregory Turner was second and received the Moose Lodge Award while Carla Crockford, third prize winner, got the $5. Credit Union Award. In the 12-16 age group Helen Malashewski's garden was judged best and she received a Union Local 665 Trophy and watch. Werner Hermes and John Ruzyski received the $5. Moose Award and $5. Credit Union Award respectively as 2nd. place and 3rd. place winners. Werner Hermes also received the Horticultural Society Shield for the highest aggregate points in the Junior Gardener's Annual Show (Junior and Senior Division) when he took five first and ~ second prizes with ly exhibits . continued on Page
