wet. 10 No. 30 KIMBERLY-CLARK WEEKLY SAFETY SLOGAN The five winners of silver dollars in last week's safety slogan contest were: Mike Brend, Bill Randa, Lynn Merkley, Bruno Werezynski and Jim Alexander. We might well ask ourselves why we knowingly take chances either on or off the job. And who are we actually kidding when we do take a chance just becaus nobody is looking? What kind of sense does it make when we cut corners just to save a few moments or minutes? There's a world of meaning in this week's safety slogan: "YOU BET YOUR LIFE WHEN YOU TAKE A CHANCE" BOAT-TRAILER COULD BE TRAFFIC HAZARD Much has been said about boating safety while the boat is in the water, but an improperly managed boat-trailer can cause a hazard on dry land. There are a few basic points to remember that should help avoid trouble enroute to your favorite lake: - Always make sure safety chains are attached to bumper hookups. - Check trailer's tires to ensure both tires are proper! inflated and while on the road, stop periodically and check the inflation. Properly inflated tires combat trailer swaying, thus avoiding possibilities of an accident. - Check trailer lighting system to ensure signal lights and brake lights are working properly. Check wiring along the trailer frame, looking out for frayed wires (see Pg. 8 TERRACE BAY NEWS Serving The District BQ er July 27, 1967 MACKENZIE VOYAGEURS ARRIVE HERE An advance party of the Mackenzie Voyageurs arrived in Terrace Bay early Thursday afternoon from Port Arthur. The,remaining six members of the expedition, together with "Lobo", the quarter wolf German Shepherd that is also making the 5,200 mile trip by canoe, were still out on Lake Superior, at time of writing, and with foggy cond- itions existing out there it seemed unlikely that they would beach at the mouth of the Aguasabon River until Friday morning. During the afternoon the authentically dressed Guy Randall and Ken B rown with two other crew members toured the town stopping to talk with many fascinated youngsters who wanted to know if the beard was real! To the delight of an interested audience, they showed coloured movies of their trip as far as Winnipeg. As thrillin g as the trip were wild life shots - bears swimming in a river, a fish leaping for a hook and many others. After spending all day Friday rather damply at the beach, the advance party together with Mrs. Ingrid Van Tamelen and three year old Todd; received word that the canoe party was beached on Lamb Island, sitting out the fog. Food was dispat ched through the O.P.P. at Schreiber . Saturday morning, now six days behind schedule, the fog was little better and after consultation the bus and trailer back tracked to Red Rock to pick up the canoeists, after which they made the long portage to Sault Ste. Marie, to enable them to make up lost time on their schedule.
