'Lb > 'Z = RUSSIAN TOUR Last Friday and Saturday the Geraldton office of the Department of Lands and Forests were host to a group of four Russian foresters touring Canada. The Russian group included Chief Forester and Fire. Suppression Chief for Russia. Department personnel accompanying the group on their tour of Ontario included Messrs. Foster and Affleck of Toronto. Mr. Ringham, Regional Dir- ector, Port Arthur joined the party at Geraldton. District staff and Mr. Penna, of Kimberly-Clark Pulp and Paper Company accompanied the group while touring various sgt and points of interest. Before leaving Saturday morning a hearty lumber- jack breakfast was prepared and served to the group - at the Department staff house at the Geraldton _ Chief Ranger base. The Russian group brought a film along with them depicting forest fire fighting methods used in Russia. _ This film was taken 'in Russia with English narration. Of particular interest was their integral float tank water bomber and use of retardents. The party viewed a prescribed burn area at Raynar Lake. From Raynar Lake they moved to the recent large fire in the Nakina Division of Wababimiga Lake. This gave the Russian party an opportunity to view a burned area of considerable magnitude and the effects of fire on an area where timber utilization was taking place at the time of the fire outbreak. Members of the unarmed combat team of the four Royal Canadian Horse Artillery will provide a display of physical fitness in each performance of the touring show "Forces 67" in Terrace Bay - July 16. One of the noisier and more colorful segments of "Forces 67" performances will be the ripple firing.
