June 29, 1967 DROWNING AVERTED-From Page 4 Fortunately, a mile and a half ~ from, and also making for the Slates, were Archie Heinrich and Raoul Cormier in Archie's 15 ft. boat. Something prompt- ed Archie to turn round and check on the Desaulniers' boat. He could see nothing but a bobbing life jacket and immed- iately turned around and headed for the rescue. He found the whole party all wearing lifejackets clinging to the boat. As they had been ten minutes in the icy water, Archie made speed back to the shelter of the mouth of the Aguasabon River. Only two hours after they left they were _ safely home, wet, shaken but alive. Thanks to the prompt attion of Mr. Heinrich and attention to water safety rules by Mr. Desaulniers, a near tragedy was averted. The following day a four hour effort resulted in recovery of the boat, twin motors, gas, food, and other gear. The only loss being some camping gear which was carried loose in the boat. Damskov , who at the time was fighting in Viet Nam. The letter was written in February and an answer received March 3, 1967. Sgt. Damskov was injured and returned to his home in Montreal. He began a trip to South Carolina and stopped in Terrace Bay June 20 to visit the class This was a great surprise and everyone was amazed to hear of his experiences during his 10 months in Viet Nam.
