Letters were sent to all residents suggesting a pledg- ed amount and canvassers were appointed to make personal contacts. Have you had enough time to consider how much you are prepared to contribute to the futures of our young people? Are you hesitant about contributing for a specific length of time? Are you aware of the magnitude of the building pro- gram - of the expansion plans? Did you know that student enrolment in the University has risen ina few short years from under 100 to thousands? If these are questions you would like answered - consult the canvasser assigned to you or any committe member . Keep in mind though, that your contribution to this expansion program will be a contribution to the economy of Northwestern Ontario and that as this economy improves so do the opportunities for our own young people. BRIDE-ELECT HONORED A miscellaneous bridal shower was held last Thurs- day at the home of Mrs. C. Buck, Terrace Bay when about twenty members of the active and relief staff of Terrace Bay hospital gathered in honour of Miss Mae Duquette, an August bride-elect. Brooks read the minutes of the last mest ing and recorded the business of this meeting. . Correspondence regarding District Newsletter was read. We will try to have articles contributing to this letter. Education Chaitman, Mrs. Wills, stated films were shown at the schools during April. The principals co-operated in the showing. There was a discussion on a showing of films in October or November for all community women. Service to patients, Mrs. Brooks, spoke about a Centepnial Tea. Council will be asked for permission to hold a lawn tea in the area of the shopping plaza either July 2| or 22. A display of literature would be used, a silver collection taken and all money will go to the gift cupboard. Centennial dress will be the order of the day. There was also a discussion on help available to patients in need. Some help with pain relieving drugs can be arranged when the request comes from the attending Doctor. When needed, dressings are supplied free of charge, also on the request of the Doctor . The special church calendars to mark the opening of campaign month did not arrive. These will be ordered earlier next year. The campaign was very successful and we are very grateful to each person donating. It takes a great deal of money for research. If treated in time cancer can be healed. It is very important to find the real cause, and research brings us closer to this goal. Money donated here helps all patients from here in some small way. Nominating chairman Mrs. Rapke presented the slate of officers effective at the September 19 meeting.
