RECREATION TOPICS - By Buck curlers and hockey players are asking "When will the ice in the Arena be ready? " We are presently undergoing some major repair work with our ice plant and do not anticipate having ice ready for use until the week of November 20th. In all pro- bability the ice in the Arena should be in by Nov. I7th and the curling ice the following day. The curling season will open with a Novelty Bonspiel and a large entry is expected. In the Arena, on Friday, November 18 there will be the first public skating of the season. LEARN TO SKATE CLINIC A 'Learn to Skate Clinic'will be held in Terrace Bay on November |8, 19 and 20 for minor hockey players and coaches and figure skaters and coaches. Learn the skills and techniques of teaching the youngsters in your programme the fundamentals of skating. Amateur coaches will be of. considerable assistance to your programme, allowing the profes- sional to be more available where he or she is needed. Successful candidates trained at these clinics will be recognized as Amateur Coaches by the C.F.S.A In accepting the invitation to attend these skaters are expected to help their clubs for a year or two. Candidates should be reasonably proficient skat- ers, eith er boys or girls, 14 years of age or over, of amateur standing, with excellent leadership qualities, and be in a position to devote a certain amount of time to instructing and judging tests in their area. Skating mothers will be most welcome. This Clinic is sponsored by the Can.Amateur Figure Skating Assoc.and the Fitness and Amateur Sports Branch of Canada and the hosting club will be the Terrace Bay Figure Skating Club. Mrs. Ber- yl Campbell from Pt.Arthur is Regional Training Director and will be assisted by four qualified people.
