Vol .9, No.26 JULY 1 STARTS DOMINION DAY WEEKEND In 1965, during the month of July, 15,556 per- sons in Canada were injured in traffic accidents-- the most of any month of the year. It is understand able that the Domion Day weekend, being the first holiday in the summer, should tempt families to seek the open road. And it is also understandable that the increased holiday traffic is a danger sign, warning the motorist to take extra precautions in holiday traffic. This year the number of vehicles on our highways will be augmented by many drivers from south of the border where their July 4th holiday also extends the holiday weekend. By observing the rules of the road and exercising the common courtesies of driving, the motorist can decrease the occurrence of holiday accidents while protecting the lives of himself and his family. Hon.Irwin Haskett, Minister of Transport of On- tario offers the following suggestions for improving individual driving efficiency and thereby reducing accidents. |. Travelling when over-tired is dangerous. Take frequent rest stops along the way. . Keep your car well-ventilated; fresh air keeps you alert; . Allow yourself sufficient time to reach your des- tination and to get home safely; . Plan your trip ahead of time. Maps should be consulted before you set out, not when you arrive at a cross-road. Indecision can and does trigger accidents. Treat other drivers with the courtesy you would like them to show you. Maintain a clear field of vision at all times. Be sure that luggage, boats and trailers don't ob- scure car windows. md AY ', y C . A special presentation was then made to Lester Legault for his great contribu- tion to minor hockey during the past season. In his address president J.Adamo, after thanking those present for their attendance, welcomed the opportunity to express his discouragement at the lack of active support for minor hockey in Terrace Bay. He had nothing but praise for those who so generously and untiringly gave their help but he was very concerned at the mess North Shore hockey had got into during the past few seasons. It was time, he thought, that more consideration and time was given to supporting the interest and pleasure of the young hockey players. (Continued
