Bade 12. THE Recreation Briefs - continued Operetta - The Port Arthur Junior Music Makers presented the Operetta The Fortune Teller at the Terrace Bay High School on Sunday, May 29th. The crowd was very disappointing and we find our- selves in a difficult position to bring in other talent such as this for this community. It was surprising to see the talent on stage from these young perfor- mers, and we were hoping that this would create enthusiasm and incentive for our own children. The cultural and intellectual aspect of recreation has been very badly neglected and our sole purpose in bringing this group to Terrace Bay was to broaden the interests of our young people. If there is sufficient interest indicated this Fall we will make an attempt to hdve an instructor teach ballet, baton twirling and contemporary dance in Terrace Bay. North Shore Centennial Meeting - Delegates from Terrace Bay attended a meeting at Marathon this past week with regard to Centennial Performing Arts. These were - Chairman Ed Cavanaugh, Pro- gramme Co-ordinators Mrs.D.Evans-Smith and © Buck Matiowsky. The purpose of this meeting was to tentatively schedule touring performing art groups along the North Shore during Centennial Year. Bookings made tentatively for Terrace Bay are the Cathy McKinnon Show, along with the Jubilee Singers, the National Ballet and the National Opera Group. PROMINENT CHURCHMAN HERE JUNE 6TH The Rev.Ernest E.Long, Secretary of the General Council of the United Church of Canada will be the guest speaker at the Interfaith Dinner being held in the Moose Hall on Monday, June 6th, Doctor Long is presently a member of the Central Committee of the World Council of Churches and of the Division of Inter-Church Aid, Refugee and World Service and its Executive; on the Executives of the International Congregational Council and the World Methodist Council, a member of the World Presbyterian Alliance, and has been Chairman of the Department of Ecumenical Affairs of The Cana- dian Council of Churches. David will make the trip to the United Nations this summer with others who have won similar contests in Canada and the U.S. MOTHER & DAUGHTER BANQUET IN SCHREIBER District Commissioner Mrs.lris Finch of the Brownies was guest speaker at a mother and daughter banquet held in the Guild Hall with 111 attending. Brown Owl Mrs. Kay Stefurak was M.C. for this and introduced the head table guests and other Pack Leaders, Marcy Cebrario, Betty Huard, Mary Shack, Irma Niemi, June Sisson and Agnes Deit- rich. She paid tribute to the Catholic Women's League for sponsoring in such a generous way the Brownie movement in Schreiber. She also thanked those who prepared and served the banquet. Grace was said by Father J.M.Cano, a Toast to Lady Baden Powell was given. by Mary Bourke and to Mothers by Laureen Kusik with Mrs. 'Kusik responding. Mrs.Finch said her district stretches from Gerald ton to Manitouwadge with increasing numbers each year. In a simple story she showed that, as one can only take out of a bank what one has put in, so they must put something into their Brownie meetings to receive to the fullest the benefits and pleasure they can enjoy. Cathy Cocks, Donna McGrath, Judy Parent, Linda Singleton, Betty Ann Huard, Elda Holland, Brenda Cebrario, Cheryl Karns, Mary Figlionneni and Alma Cenerelli presented a skit. The door prize for daugh ters was won by Jane Ann Rynard and the one for mothers Mrs .Lorenzo Levigne. SAUL BERMAN TO M.C.HYDRO SHOWTIME A superb showman, with an interesting and amus- ing way of pre senting the all-electric concept of living, Saul Berman, will act as Master of Ceremon ies for Hydro Showtime which is being presented by the Schreiber Hydro Electric Commission under the auspices of the Catholic Women's League of Holy Angels Parish.
