May 19, 1966 COUNCIL .... Continued from front page to take action where lanes have been blocked. Angry complaints regarding dogs at large, menac- ing citiz ens, brought council to levying fines again and patrols will be made to enforce this decision. Clerk-Treasurer G .Robson was authorized to at- tend the Assessor's School in Windsor May 16 to I9. Local insurance agents were asked to have their underwriters make a new survey of the town as it is felt the low fire losses of recent years warrant lower rates. The Canadian Pacific railway will be conferred with in an effort to drain water collecting in the south end of town due, in part, to run-off from the railway yards. One resident declared his b asement is being ruined by the water which apparently the three catch sinks in the area will not contain. It was felt that representation should be present at the hearing in Port Arthur of the Board of Trans- port and Communications this month. Ontario Water Resources notified town that an application to instal a main on newly-opened street must be accompanied by complete details of present water system. Council felt there is a misunderstand- ing of the project and will contact the OWRC to this effect. An application from a western stage show to hold a show here with division of profits to some local sponsor was passed on to various organizations. Councillor McGrath noted that certain unused buildings were a very real fire hazard and should be demolished. Advice will be sought on the problem. Fire Chief Pat Bolan's report showed regular meet ing held, instruction classes, inspection of hydrants and only two small fires with little damage. The account with W.L.Wardrope and Associates for preliminary report on the rink was held for further consideration. Regional Officer A.R.Morpurgo wrote suggesting attention be given to plans and regulations for the _ town lest they suddenly become involved in munici- pal problems arising from the lack of these. He sug- gested a citizens' committee be formed which could consider progressive action and said he would be happy to confer with them. Council are pleased with the amount of tax re- turns now coming in. Councillor McParland report- ed meeting recently with a Bell Telephone executive who said he would be happy to come to Schreiber to confer with Council on any problem or proposed change. Councillor McGrath was jubilant over a water dept.account of only $15.88 but adamant in insisting that water rates must be paid by owner of the premises rather than the renter. General accounts of $3,375.42 were passed for payment pending checking on one'bill. Terrace Bay Town Council wrote suggesting that, to foster the goodwill which exists between the two Councils, members of each, or representatives, at- tend one another's meetings. Terrace Bay is negot- iating purchase of radar equipment and inquired if Schreiber might be interested in sharing the cost and use of it. Some members were dubious about the ye of the oer but Councillor Spadoni said he was certain of its accuracy. THE NEWS LUTHERAN WOMEN'S RALLY HELD HEKE The Women's Missionary League (Ontario Circut) of the Lutheran Church, Missouri Synod, held their annual Spring Rally here on May 6th, the hostesses being the LWWL unit of the Schreiber Church. Thirty delegates and two pastors, representing six churches, attended. There are some 13 congrega- tions in this district. The Rally opened with the Communion Service conducted by Rev.M. Kaija of Immanuel Church, Nipigon, and Rev.Philip Florip of Epiphany Luth- eran Church, Port Arthur. Business sessions were chaired by Mrs.C .Wachter president of the Ontario Circuit. It was decided to purchase and present Canadian Flags to the Minnestoa North District of the LWWL, of which the Ontario Circuit is a member, to the convention at Bemidji, Minnesota in June, with Mrs .Wachter making the presentation. Mrs.D.Pipho of Two Harbors, Minn., Regional vice-president, spoke on activities of the Minneso- ta North District and referred to the coming con- J vention. Twenty-two projects have been approved for submission at the convention, seven of which are for the Ontario Circuit. It was suggested that as many delegates as possible attend the convention New officers elected were Mrs.A.Thingstad of Fort William, chairman - Mrs.S.Ronbeck of Port Arthur, secretary - Rev.E.M.Beck of Port Arthur, pastoral counsellor. The present vice-president, Mrs.L.Schaan of Port Arthur and Treasurer Mrs .H Matzlar of Fort William, are elected in alternate years. During the afternoon some of the delegates con- dicted a religious survey of the town. They were most impressed with the courteous welcome they met on this canvass. The closing devotions were conducted by Rev. Florip after which lunch was served by the hostess group. Mr.and Mrs.Tom Leveque and family have re- turned to Hornepayne after visiting her parents, Mr .and Mrs.Harry Welbourne. Hugh Stewart is visiting his sister, Miss Juanita Stewart in Port Arthur.
