OPERETTA HERE MAY 29TH The Terrace Bay Recreation Assoc- iation is sponsoring a children's Oper- etta on Sunday, May 29th, at 2 p.m. in the Terrace Bay High School Aud- itorium. This production is being pre sented by the Port Arthur Junior Music Makers. It is an operetta in two acts by Victor Herbert, called THE FORTUNE-TELLER. It is being directed by Mrs.Gwen Tryhurn of Port Arthur. The Port Arthur Music Makers and their parents are very active these days preparing for this operetta for presentation in Terrace Bay. This delightful and amusing musical is the second operetta to be undertaken by this group since its formation in Nov- ember, 1965. Just to look into the practice studio during a rehearsal is an entertaining and interesting experience. You sveuld hear music, singing, dancing feet and dialogue. You would see ballet dances, Russian Hussars and Gypsies learning dance routines. At the same time, groups are being coached in dialogue while others practise solos and choruses from the operetta. The cast, which ranges in age from five year olds to teenagers, are start- ing to feel the excitement as they work together under music, drama and | dance directors. A cast of 50 young children will perform on the stage. This will be the first time that Ter- race Bay has had a children's theatre group perform here and it promises to be a most entertaining and delightful presentation. Tickets for this produc- tion can be obtained from the Recrea- tion Office. Prices-will be - adults 75¢ - stud ents 50¢ and children 30¢. GOLF NEWS In the elections held at the local Golf Club's annual meeting Thor Olse succeeded Jack Thomas as president. The interior of the Club House is now completed and it is indeed very comfortable and eye pleasing. The washrooms are now under construction and should be in operation:very shortly The golf course was officially open- ed last week and judging by the large numbers who turned out and the large increase to date of members this year. the season should be a busy one. With completion of the landscaping around the. clubhouse we will have, without a doubt, the finest and most scenic golf course in Northern Ontario Those who have given freely of their time deserve a lot of credit for a ter- rific job and I'm sure must be pleased with the results. Our gratitude to Kimberly-Clark for their assistance is of course without bounds . This year's first tournament will be held on June 11th and sponsored by Carling's.
