OFFICIAL VISITS REBEKAH LODGE Mrs. Dora Weaver, D.D.P., paid h er official visit to Ruby Rebekah Lodge at their regular meet- ing with Mrs.Helen Wallace, PDDP introducing her. Mrs.Mary Husband, N.G., presented a corsage to Mrs.Weaver on behalf of the Lodge. Mrs .Mary Chadwell of Fort William was welcom- ed as a guest. Mrs.Bern Whent, V.G., reported visits paid and other tokens of friendship sent to older members on their birthdays and to members in hospitals. Lodge Delegate, Mrs.Agnes Bryson, reported on the recent district meeting. Mrs.Wea- ver reported on the tea she convened for the Lodge and Mrs.Ruth Hiller on the supper she convened for the district meeting. Charles Worrell, director of the IOOF United Nations Youth Pilgrimage wrote asking the Schrei- ber Lodges to again supply a hot noon meal for the bus load of young people passing through on July 11 and:member approved. Fetlowing the meeting penny auction was played after which Mrs.Jessie McCanna's committee served a salad plate lunch. Charter member Mrs.Agnes Bryson h ad her 80th birthday marked by a gift of money presented by Mrs.Minnie Bryant. The birthday cake which cen- tered the long table wus: made by Mrs.Gladys Madigan. LAKEHEAD DOCTOR HONORED Among the twelve senior Ontario physicians to be honored at the annual meeting of the Ontario Medical Association in Toronto next week is Dr. R.C.Bull of Fort William, a former member of the O.M.A.Board of Directors who has twice b een president of the Thunder Bay Medical Society. AIR CANADA STARTS FLIGHTS TO MIAMI JUNE 1 Montreal - Air Canada has announced that, subject to government approval, it will inaugurate service b etween Canada and Miami on June 1. The new daily return flights will operate between Montreal, Toronto, Tampa and Miami and will feature the airline's new DC-9 Twin Jet. The Canadian carrier was awarded the new route. following bilateral agreement between the Canadian and United States governments. GOVERNMENTS TO OPEN LOTS IN LONGLAC Ottawa, May 6 = The federal government and the government of the Province of Ontario will acquire and service 21 acres of land in Longlac to produce residential lots for sale to prospective home-owners. A total of 84 lots will be developed. The announcement was made jointly today by the Hon.John R.Nicholson, Minister responsible to Parliament for Central Motrgage and Housing Corp. and the Hon.St anley J.Randall, Minister respon- sible to the Ontario Legislature for Ontario Housing Corp. The services will include sanitary sewers, watermains and gravel roads. ROSSPORT NEWS "Mrs .Lostracco of Schreiber has taken up residence in Rossport. Mrs .Joseph Brassard is holidaying in St.Cath er- ines with relatives. Mr .and Mrs.Wm.Angrove of Fort William are at their summer cottage here. Mr .and Mrs.C .Scutt of Sault Ste.Marie are vis- iting Mr.and Mrs. Middleton at the Forestry Base in Pays Plat. Ben Lespinski, Chief Ranger, was a business visit- or to Geraldton and the Lakehead this week. Mr.and Mrs.Arthur Douglas and baby, of White River, and Mr.and Mrs.Jos .Douglas of Beardmore visited Mr.and Mrs .C .Todesco over the weekend. The Women's Group of the Union Church held a Mother's Day Tea and Penny Auction last Sunday evening in the Community Hall. The president, Mrs.H.Middleton, received and Mrs.L.Ibey was cashier. Working on the Penny Auction were Mrs. Tom Yandon, Mrs.Toy Seppala, Mrs.L .lbey and Mrs .Middleton. Pouring from a tea table covered with an ecru lace cloth centred with a bone china flower and candle holder were Mrs.Jack Spillet, and Mrs. Russell Gerow.
