THE CAPACITY CROWD ATTENDS FASHION SHOW The Kinettes' Spring Fashion Show was held in the highschool auditorium, attended by a very large audience. EAch year the attendance of men in- creases, due in part to the display of men's fashions and to parental pride in the small son or daughter working in the show. Included in the display were bathing, beach, sports and sleep attire, suits, coats, dresses for every occasion, each with correct accessories. The models were Mesdames Harriet McBride, Bart Kusik, Mary Shack, Betty Luke, Freda Duggan, Marj.Morrill, Barbara Stefurak, the Misses Susan Dimmery, Colleen Cosgrove, Lorraine Fournier, Rose Huard, Susan Bromley, with Carl LeBlanc and lan Macadam showing the men's clothes and Laurie Strasser, Debby Major, Donald Swanson and Bob McKenna, the children's clothes. Mavis Godin, Kinette president, welcomed the audience and Mrs.Gladys Irving was the commen- tator, pointing out the high fashion in the Poor Boy Look, the dropped waistline, skirts without waistbands, the Piccadilly Look, the Pouffe-a-boo sheath, semi-fitted shifts with frills and the still popular A-line. Jade, apricot, navy and acqua were among the most popular colors in both plain and figured fabrics. Mrs .Dolly Carlson assisted the dressers. Following the show coffee and small cakes were served with Kinsmen attending the buffet counter. LIFE MEMB ERSHIP PRESENTED TO MRS .BRYSON A highlight of the banquet of the Ladies Curling Club in Schreiber was the presentation of a Life Membership to Mrs.J.D.Bryson by Mrs.Nettie Thrower, club president. In response to a request from Burton Phillips of the.Men's Club, the following were appointed to a joint directors board with the men--Maureen Phillips, Anita Bowlier, Agnes Herlihy, Frankie Cataford, Shirley Krystia and Nellie Gray. A donation was made to the Men's Club. Juanita Gellert was named Northwestern repre- sentative. Miss Esther Niemi and Elsie Ross were appointed auditors. Mrs. Bryson played for the singing of Queen and Grace was said by Mrs.Victoria Winters, another Life Member of the club. FILL IN THOSE TAX FORMS CORRECTLY in your tax form correctly. The books are currently being indexed for modern filing sys tem. Fines during the year amounted to $118.32 and book replacements to $109.32. There are nine mem- bers on the board, representing the municipal coun- cil, ratepayers and all schools. Alan Pepper of the Regional Library, wrote saying the exchange of books will be made on May 7th. He also urged that the Schreiber Librarian attend the workshop in North Bay this year since none will be held in this region. He also outlined the assist- ance given to a delegate attending the conference in Ottawa. Six hundred dollars will be spent on new books-- $300 for adults and $300 for children. The children are given the advantage since the adult selection includes those bought for teenage readers. The Board will inquire into the merits of a series of books on Canada's Centennial, one volume every | second month. The township council have suggested that the library move into the town hall auditorium but since | no member of council has met with the board and the library board members have differing opinions on the new quarters, no decision can be made until a meeting is arranged. The highschool board will be advised they are in arrears for the unit borrowed through the library. H.M.Ermel presided for the meeting with Miss Gwen Hadley as secretary-treasurer . CATHOLIC GIRLS CHOOSE PAGEANT QUEENS The Catholic Girls Club set the date for their Daffodil Tea this year for Saturday, May 2Ist from 2 - 5 in the Guild Hall. This was decided at the regular meeting on April 3rd with fifty-two present and Crystal Kusik presiding. Chosen to be Queens in the religious pageants enacted twice each year were Lorraine Fournier for May and Muriel Holmes for October. Father Cano spoke on Holy Week, explaining the religious significance of the celebration of each day. Lola Scott and Aileen Ross volunteered to assist in the Parish Library during the month of May. The Daffodil Tea will be managed by Marilyn Cook's group and Cora Spadoni's group. Draw prizes were won by Linda Connelly, Cathy McLellan and Ronda Godin. Mrs . Bill Lidkea is visiting her sister, Flt.Lieut. Lois Davis and her brother Melvin and his wife, in Ottawa. The Boy Scouts will conduct their door-to-door candy sale on April 9th. George (Bucky) McCouan is visiting his parents, Mr.and Mrs.Manuel McCouan, on his last leave prior to leaving the RCAF on pension. Bucky is one of three Schreiber men who have retired from the Armed Forces after serving full time. The others are Melvin Davis and Donald Smith.
