THE Red Shield Drive Set For May -- Mrs, Jack Winters conducted the regular meeting of the Ladies Auxiliary to Schreiber Royal Canadian Legion when branch 109 observed vice-presi- dent's night March 2. Mrs, . Jeanette Gunter, presi- dent installed Mrs. Helen Nes- bitt and Mrs. Andrea Hill on the executive. Applications from Mrs. Bella LeBlanc and Mrs. Betty Luke for membership were approved. It-was decided to conduct the Red Shield appeal for the Sal- vation Army during the month of May. Mrs. Hill will convene this project. Mrs. Lorraine Nesbitt re- ported the sum of $105.98 re- alized from the February draw. Mrs. Helen Nesbitt said she had already collected $26.60 from the bakeless bake sale pro- ject and was promised other contributions. A donation of $50 was made to the artificial ice fund. Mrs. Inez McCuaig spoke on centennial celebrations for Schreiber for which she is chair- man, and asked for two mem- bers of the auxiliary to attend a meeting at 8 p.m. Sunday in the high school. Mrs. Davis and Mrs. Huard volunteered. Mrs. Annie LeBlanc-and Mrs. Polly Bottomley, charter mem- bers, were made honorary members. There was a lively debate on the duties of the social conven- er and it was agreed that this office covered only: such lunches as were Jegion or auxiliary oc- casions, ; Young Speakers Compete The public speaking for ele- mentary schools, arranged an- nually by the Ontario Trustees and Ratepayers' Association, was held in Schreiber High School March 2 with only two entries, both from Terrace Bay -- Donna Chapman from the public school and Lorraine Bel- liveau of St. Martin's Separate school. . Judges were R. M. Ritchie, Mrs, E. E. Forgues, and Eric Ashe, all of the high school staff. First prize was won. by Lor- faine, speaking on conservation while Donna chose Canada Over The Last One Hundred Years. Mr. Ritchi e said they found de- mor of the themes excel- ent. Organizers Honored Schreiber Kinsmen Club ob- served its 20th anniversary at a recent party in the town hall. Also marked was the 45th an- niversary of the Kinsmen organ- ization. Attending were three charter members, Alec Gordon, Peter Speziale and Mrs. Inez Mc- Cuaig. Mr. "Gordon read a mes- sage of congratulations from Boyd Higginson of Burke Falls, Schreiber club's charter presi- dent. Guests included Deputy Gov- ernor Harry Kirk and his wife of Fort William. The evening in- cluced entertainment by the Kinettes, dancing to the orches- -tra of:Chuck Levigne and a buf- fet lunch. Initiation ceremonies will be carried out at a March 9 meet- ing of Ruby Rebekah Lodge, Schreiber, commencing at 7:30 p.m. Austin Cosgrove is in the Port Arthur General Hospital Mrs. Wesley Miller is in Terrace Bay Hospital. Mr. and Mrs. Bill Campbell have moved to White River where Mr. Campbell is em- ployed with the CPR. a Mr, and Mrs. Warren Robin- scn, who have been devoted. workers in St. Jolin's Anglican Church since coming to Schrei- ber, were feted by the congre- gation at a farewell party when tea was poured by Mrs. Jack Corbett and Mrs. J. D. Bryson. George Birch presented Mr. Robinson with a prayer book and Mrs. Robinson received one from W. E. Collinson. Mr. Rob- inson was rector's. warden for some years. They are moving to Prince George, B.C. The women's groups in the church served lunch after which movies were shown by Rev, R J. S. Inshaw. LADIES CURLING CLUB TO MEET SUNDAY There will be a meeting of Schreiber Ladies Curling Club on Sunday, March I3th at 2 P.M. in the Club Rooms. All members are urged to attend. Photo by W.Morrill UNITED CHURCH WOMEN PLAN SHAMROCK TEA The United Church Women at the March meeting planned a Shamrock tea on March 12 in the Church Hall. The April roll call is to be answered with donations to the Cancer Cupboard=-such as toilet accessories, writing material, a book or similar personal gift. Mrs.Nelson Smith who attended the recent Super- ior Presbyterial reported it was an inspiring occasion with women of other denominations attending. Theme of the meeting was "Get-togetherness in helping one another. " The sewing committee reported three quilts com- pleted and another underway. Mrs .Frank Fummerton presented an interesting paper on United Churches and school in Trinidad and Mrs.Wesley Cl emens read an amusing sketch. Mrs.John Spillane presided for the meeting with Mrs .Oscar Laine reading minutes and correspondence and Mrs .Bill Thrower presenting the treasurer's re- port. Mr .and Mrs .J.C.(Joe) Campbell, who marked their 42nd wedding anniversary on March 3rd, celebrated the occasion on March 2nd with a family dinner party in their home. During the social evening which fol- lowed they were presented with a record player by their family. Miss Carol Bennetz, training in St.Michael 's Hospital School of Nursing, Toronto, spent the week- end with her parents. Rev. and Mrs.R.J.S.Inshaw are happy to announce the arrival of their first grandchild, a daughter born to Mr.and Mrs.John Inshaw (nee Carol Jacobson), on March 5th in St.Michael's Hospital, Toronto.
