ut) THE NEWS September 23, 1965 CATHOLIC WOMEN'S LEAGUE HAS 175 MEMBERS Membership convenor, Mrs.Joe Caccamo, report- ed at the regular meeting of the Catholic Women's League on September 12 that there are 175 members now enrolled with prospective members still to be contacted . Plans were made for a penny auction on October Ist which Mrs.Gordon McParland will convene. The discussion club of the parish will resume regu- lar meetings on Sept.2I in the Guild Hall. A dona- tion was sent to Madonna House at Combermere, Ont Father Cano spoke briefly on the Vanier Family Institute which the League has been asked to adopt as a Centennial project. Education Convenor Mrs.M.J.McGrath reported was presented to Marlene Jarva and asked members to save used stamps for Scarboro Foreign Missions . Mrs. Bill Mullins, social action convenor, reported that boxes of clothing were sent to the mission at Fort Frances. Mrs.Gordon McParland, Spiritual convenor, re- ported sending books and magazines to San patients , and reminded members that the Rosary will be said daily in October. Correspondence, read by Mrs.Roly Stortini, in- cluded a letter from Diocesan President, Mrs.F. Helmink, describing the regional tour undertaken this month by Rev. R.A.Carey, herself and Mrs. Harry Shack. Mrs.B.ill Cocks, who presided for the meeting, thanked those who convened the Field Day or assist- | ed in any way. Mrs.W.Paradis presented the Ladies Auxiliary to the Canadian Legion bursary of $100 to Jim Lesauvage and M.J.McGrath presented the Knights of Columbus $100 bursary to John Stortini. The Kimberly-Clark Company award of $2,000 was presented to Diane Paulsen by W.Farrell. An Ontario Scholarship of $400 was pre sented to Jim Lesauvage by Mrs.L.Godin and Mrs.B.Costa presented a Uni- versity of Waterloo Tuition Scholarship to him. Dominion Provincial Type A Bursaries were presen- ted to Diane Paulsen, Marlene Jarva and Jim Lesau- vage by A.S.Gordon. Secondary School graduation diplomas were pre- sented by Cyril Sparkes to Richard Chicoine, Edith Clemens, Janet Clemens, Jody Davis, Patsy Dimmery Boyd Drake, Fred Eickmeier, Anna Fummerton, Ron- ald Hamilton, Paula Hill, Jerry Lesauvage, John McParland, Philip Moorey, Russell Nesbitt, Maridel Powis, John Scott, Ray Small, Brian Webb and David Winters. Academic awards were presented to:- Grade 9 - Bruce Gray 77.1% and Cora Spadoni 80.7%, Karen Lidkea 78.3%, Lenore Campbell 78.3%, Fred Nicoll 76.9%, Helen Harness 75.6%, Judy Walker 75.3%, Lise Ouelette 75.4% and Gordon Moorey 75.0%. Grade 10 - William Webb 81.9%, Roxanne Hill 78.7%, Albert Huard 77.7%. Grade 11 - Warren Morrill 86.6%, Sharon Jarva and Muriel Nesbitt 77.0% each. Grade 12 - Anna Fummerton 81.3%, Maridel Powis 75.8%, John Scott 77.7% and Patsy Dimmery 76.5%. Fifty-eight perfect attendance bars were presented, thirteen school letters, seventeen Owl bars, eight cheer leader, eight curling, 18 student council, 35 track and field, 22 girls' choir, 10 French, 31 basket- ball, 18 volleyball, 6 bowling 12 library--which well displays the students' participation in all phases of school life. Anna Fummerton was Valedictorian. A dance followed the program. The Busy Bees of the Anglican Church will hold their Fall hat show on September 24 and 25 from 8 - 10 in the Church Hall. In addition to hats, gloves, shoes, handbags and scarves will be shown. The office hours of the CPR Credit Union have b een changed to Il a.m. to 2 p.m. each Tuesday and Friday. Mr.and Mrs.Archie Freed and family of Winnipeg visited Mrs.George McBride, Mrs .Freed's mother. Mr cand Mrs.Clifford Parker of Smithville and Mr. and Mrs.Roy Marshall of Vinemount, Ont. visited Mr.and Mrs.Lester McCuaig last week. Mrs.Tom Bryant is visiting in Toronto. Mrs.Alma Woodworth of Toronto is visiting her daughter, Mrs.Stella Ackerman. Jack Corbett was taken to Lakehead Hospital last week as was W.E.Fairs. Marlene Birch is now on the staff of General Hos- pital, Sault Ste.Marie.
