OMN BASS GOLF NEWS As September approaches the golf club's thoughts are being focussed towards the end of this year's golf activities. This year the official end of our season will be marked by a wind-up banquet and dance. Tickets will go on sale shortly and any information may be obtained from the committee chairman, Joe Caccamo. Since this will be the first wind-up banquet it is hoped that everyone will assist by attending, thereby making it a huge success. On Labour Day Kimberly-Clark will sponsor our first major tournament and will recognize the club championship with a trophy. There will be prizes for handicap competitors with every participant having a chance to win. Those without an established handi- cap should turn in cards as soon as possible so that a handicap can be determined before the tournament. There is a limited supply of rule books with handi- cap cards at the club house for anyone interested. There has been some petty and annoying pilferage at the golf course and to date the offenders have re- ceived warnings; however, should this continue more severe measures will be taken in order to avoid repetition. Now that the greens are growing into such fine shape the ball marks are becoming quite noticeable and one can see easily how the putting surface is being damaged. This can be eliminated if the ball marks are repaired immediately. The proper way to do this is to lift the depressed soil with a tee. We have endeavoured to stir up concern and interes in our members toward the maintenance of our course and although there has been some improvements there THE NEWS 1 A.M. Large unreplaceable divot: still scar our fairways. Everyone wants a course with lush greens and fair=~ ; ways, but in order to acheive this , the co-operation of all the members is essential . ETIQUETTE REMINDER - HELP AVOID TRAFFIC JAMS Traffic tie-ups minimize golfing pleasure. One way fof helping avoid delay is to observe the customs of the game about allowing following groups to play through. First, if a match cannot keep its place on the course and loses stand aside and invite the following group to play through. The following players should be waved through. A lone player has no rights and,.in case of conflicts should give up his place to any sort of match - this is largely because of the concept that golf is a sociable game. Emile Stokaluk was the top winner in the Marathon open held last Saturday, August 2Ilst, This was a Ispectacular win for Emile , especially with an eagle on number 3 hole. The 10 for 27 holes on the Marathon course is indeed something to be proud of . Other winners were Jack Phillips, Jerry Papousek, Thor Olsen and Vic Timpano. Terrace Bay did very well and the boys should be congratulated. ART CLUB NEWS The Terrace Bay Art Club will meet on Thursday, August 26th, in the Arts Centre at 8:30 P.M. This meeting is for the purpose of the nominating committee to present their report. Everyone is requested to attend.
