AWARDS PRESENTED AT HORTICULTURAL SHOW Albert Farrow emerged the victor to take the Wills Nursery Trophy as grand aggregate winner of the eleventh annual Flower and Vegetable Show held Saturday, August 21st, by the Terrace Bay Horticul- tural Society. The elements not being as favorable this season to nurture some items in time for the Sho the Arena nevertheless provided q colorful display of the many categories of fruits, vegetables and flowers when arranged for judging by the renowned gladiola champion, Mr. Neil Duncan of Port Arthur. Mr. Farrow's class aggregate prizes, presented by John Ferrier, included the Ted's Cleaners Award, Simpson-Sears Award, Shell Oil Award, Costa's Terrace Bay Award, Bill Cavanaugh Award, Cebrarid Award and Circle Route Service Award along with ribbons and cash prizes individual items. The New Exhibitor's Award, presented annually b Mr. John Ferrier for the highest aggregate of points attained in the show by a first year adult exhibitor went this year to Mrs. Ray Kenney. Mrs. Kenney also received the Eaton's Trophy, for aggregate in displays and floral arrangements, individual ribbons and cash prizes; then proved it to be her lucky day by winning the door prize of fifty gallons of fuel oil from Island View Service. KIMBERLY-CLARK UNIVERSITY SCHOLARSHIP Miss Diane Paulsen of Terrace Bay again reaped the benefits of her endeavours when Mr. John Ferrier, Manager of the Kimberly-Clark Pulp and Paper Mill here announ- ced that she will receive the com- pany's $2000 scholarship given. Diane, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd Paulsen Terrace Bay, plans to attend the University of Toronto this fall, majoring in French. At present her plans are to become a high school French language teacher . "The $2,000 Kimberly-Clark Pulp and Paper University Scholarship is open to competition.among students whose parents have been bona fide residents of Terrace Bay or Longlac for at least two years prior to the time the students write Grade 13 examinations and who have attended the local high school as long as the facility permits (i.e. at the present time, through Grade 12 in Terrace Bay High School). LABOUR DAY FESTIVITIES PLANNED (By Buck) The Labour Day Festival which is sponsored by the combined efforts of the International Brotherhood of Pulp and Sulphite and Electrical Workers Union. They have come out with a Labour Day Programme that will surpass any of the previous Labour Day Festivals.. The programme for the whole day will include such special events as Track and Field, Bicycle Races, Horseshoe Tournament, Tug-O-War, and various novelty events. A wide range of midway concessions will be set up for games of skill and chance.
