Servin Vol .8, No.2l the District 1965 NAVAL INVASION HITS TERRACE BAY The Navy invaded Terrace Bay for the holiday weekend when one hundred Sea Cadets, Wrennettes and Officers arrived Saturday morning as guests of R.C.S.C.C.Superior. Commanding Officer Lt.Jim Haigh of R.C.S.C.C.Admiral Craddock of Fort Wil- liam and Lt.Tom Gustafson of R.C.S.C.C. Vindic- tive of Port Arthur disembarked to parade their Corps and the local Corps under Lt .Jim Cumming, through the Business Sector of town. Their noon- hour parade was highlighted by the presentation of the time honored ceremony 'Beat the Retreat' by the fifty-piece Cadet Band and Honor Guard. The com- bined bands were under the direction of Lt.Don Oram of R.C.S.C.C. of Admiral Craddock and Lt. Tal Morgan of R.C.S.C.C.Vindictive. A repetition of this impressive ceremony and precision marching was given again during the early evening. * The three Corps were guests of the locat Navy League at a luncheon in St.Martin's Church Hall, following which they were billeted with their week- end hosts. As the Cadets became better acquainted, the Offi- cers held an Area meeting in the Recreation Centre to discuss Sea Cadet activities and further their plans when they will participate in a tri-service Sports program in the Lakehead on Thanksgiving weekend. This will include Cadets of the Army, Navy and Airforce in the area from Kenora to Mara- thon. On Saturday evening a dance was held in the Arena with music by Ron Stuart and his Band. Dur- ing the evening Lt.J.Cumming accepted a trophy from R.C.S.C.C. Vindictive (Continued page 8 OUTSTANDING LOCAL SCOUT GIVEN TROPHY The Herman Roberts Memorial Trophy, to be award- ed in annual competition to the outstanding Boy Scout in the Terrace Bay Boy Scout Troop, was pre- sented to David Shivas for the past year. Dave re- ceived his Queen Scout badge during the Easter Season and is the first Scout to receive this Trophy. Mr .Roberts, in whose memory this Trophy was given, was associated with the Scout movement for thirty-five years and had received a long service medal for his contribution to the movement. Trained in Kapuskasing, he organized and acted as Cub and Scout Master to Packs and Troops in that town. After moving to Terrace Bay Mr .Roberts helped in organizing Cub and Scout Troops and served on the Group Committee as Chairman. For a number of years he also acted as Summer Camp chairman. David is presented with individual trophy by Scout Master R.Payette. The large trophy is his for a year.
