Photo by Inez McCuaig ANNIVERSARY PARTY HELD BY LEGION LADIES | The Ladies Auxiliary to the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 109, celebrated its 8th anniversary with a dinner party in the Legion Hall. The presi- dent, Mrs.Emerald Paradis welcomed the guests and Grace was said by Mrs.Annie LeBlanc. Mrs.P. Bottomley proposed the toast to the Queen. Guests at the head table included Mrs.Jean Banks Port Arthur, first vice president, Provincial Com- mand, Mrs.Ginger Ball, Geraldton, District Rep- resentative, Mrs.Edith Rose, Fort William, Mrs. Grace Frisken, Nipigon, Mrs.Edith Jordon, Mara- thon and Mrs .Laurette Solly, Terrace Bay. The birthday cake, made by Mrs.Cecile Bedard, was cut by Mrs.Ball. Mrs.Rowe, Mrs.Frisken, Mrs .Solly and Mrs.Jordan brought greetings from their branches. Mrs .Banks and Mrs .Ball both spoke briefly and then Mrs.Banks presented Mrs .Ruth Hiller with her past president's pin. Gifts of blue mountain pottery were presented by Mrs . Jeanette Gunter on behalf of the Auxiliary to Mrs .Ball and Mrs .Banks. A question and answer period followed the dinner. Fred McColeman and David Rigelsford supplied the music for the cabaret dance which followed for members and guests when novelty dances were won by Alf Bull and Edith Ibey and Lloyd Small and Earlene Johnson. The Pot O Gold was won by W.C .Baynes and Linda Lidkea won the draw prize. Guests included Mesdames Laurette Solly, Sadie Benké, Adeline Daley, Dot Valentine, K.Johnson, Joyce Mercier, Minnie Woodruff, Jean Fisher, Dot Coupal,Dodie Bougie, Alice Yates, Mabel Crawford, Marg Duriez, S.Boyd of Terrace Bay; Mrs.Jean Banks, Port Arthur; Mrs.Ginger Ball, Ger- aldton; Mesdames Grace Frisken, C.Gerlac, V. Dahl, W.Shanks and C.Patton of Nipigon; Mrs. Edith Jordon of Marathon. Roberta Milani is visiting in Ft.William with her grandmother, Mrs.H.Hogan. Mr .and Mrs.D.Moher and family of Manitouwadge are visiting her parents, Mr.and Mrs.E.Singleton. Mr .and Mrs.Joe Campbell are spending a holiday in Chapleau with their son Bill and his family. A singsong,led by Jane Singleton, followed dinner after which Dr. Searles gave an interesting talk on life in the West Indies. Maridel Powis, J.A.Leader, thanked Dr .Searles. Pat Dimmery gave an account of the Festival Rally the girls attended in Sudbury when they won the Archbishop's trophy. Mrs.A.W. Slater who was chaperone on the trip was presented with a gift by Heather Tremblay on behalf of the girls. In thanking them Mrs.Slater said it had been a very pleasant experience. Linda Searles presented gifts to Mrs .Jack Corbett, Mrs.J.D.Bryson, Mrs.Cyril Sparkes and Mrs .R.E. Gray who convened the dinner. The J.A.presented a skit about Early western days and Brenda and Carol Dimmery, Lynn Jolicoeur, Heather Tremblay, Jane Bailey, Shirley Ann Winters gave the choral speaking number which won them the prize at the Festival. An amusing-skit "But Mama" was presented by members of the G.A. The evening ended with the G.A. Prayer. The Schreiber High Home and School Association will hold its meeting Monday, May 3lst at 8.15 in the High School. There will be a draw, a program and lunch. The teachers will be in their classrooms at 7.30 so that parents may consult with them. Mr .and Mrs.Bruce Myers of Clio, Mich., are the guests of Mr.and Mrs.Norman McCuaig. Mr.and Mrs .C .G.Holmes were in Peterborough to attend the funeral service for Mr.Holmes uncle. Jack Gordon is in Toronto taking a five-week course at the Canadian School of Embalmiing. Mr.and Mrs.J.E.Stokes have his mother, Mrs.T. G .Brown of Port Arthur, with them for a visit. Mr .and Mrs.Tom Bolan are in Victoria, B.C., to visit their daughter and son-in-law, Mr.and Mrs. Stan Sinclair. Mr .and Mrs .Irving Cosgrove and family of Fort William are spending a holiday with Mr.and Mrs. Austin Cosgrove . George Riley and Bill Weaver are attending a Kinsmen convention in Winnipeg. Mr.and Mrs Roy Henderson of Port Arthur visited last week with Mr.and Mrs .Robt.Winters . Boyd Drake and Daryl Lynn Weaver are in Winni- peg to attend a Youth Conference. Mrs .Inez McKevitt is holidaying with friends in Sicamous, B.C. Mrs .Ted Wilson has left to visit in Toronto with Mr .and Mrs .Ronald Birch. Mr .and Mrs.D'Arcy Turner and three sons of Good- eve, Sask. are visiting with Mr.and Mrs.N.McCuaig David Drake motored to Fort William with Gordon Pike for a visit over the holiday. Doran Kragero has arrived home from Toronto to spend the summer with his parents, Mr.and Mrs .Roy Kragero. ;
