LEGION ZONE MEETING HELD IN SCHREIBER The Royal Canadian Legion held its zone meeting in Schreiber with the following representatives attending:- Frank Ginn, Zone Commander - Howard Solly and Len Pineau, Terrace Bay #223 - Dill Dum- monsky, president, Marsh Hawes,zone sports chair- man, Bill Smith and Matt Lucier, of Manitouwadge #242 - Peter Laushivay, deputy zone commander, S.Stearns, zone secretary and G. Burton, of Mara- thon - David Gunter, president, A.V.Pearson and Hobden Spikula of Schreiber. HIGH HOME & SCHOOL ASSOCIATION MEETS Vice-president, Mrs.Sanford Chicoine, chaired the March meeting of the High School Home and School association. . A letter was read regarding the Ontario Federa- tion Convention being held in Niagara Falls on April 13, naming reolutions to be proposed concern- ing safety school bus stops and for hospital insurance for students attending school at the age of eighteen. A draw was planned with Mrs.R.B.Spadoni as con- venor. Election of officers was announced for the May meeting. The Hydro-Electric is sponsoring a public speaking contest in the school on March 26th. School Principal, Mr.O.B.Fasan, stated the re- ports for sutdents will be presented before Easter. Mrs.M. Page of the district health unit was guest speaker. Mrs.Page is supervisor of the nursing divi- sion and describ ed the work of the public health nurse, since the inception of the organization. She also paid tribute to the East Thunder Bay Tuberculosis Association with whose assistance a 75% attendance was managed at a recent survey in Schreiber. YOUNG SKATERS HELP ARTIFICIAL ICE FUND The Artificial Ice Fund Committee are most grate- ful to the Misses Nancy Spillane and Shirley Ann Winters who realized $25.00 from an Ice Show ar- ranged by them in the Arena on Sunday afternoon, later donating this amount to the Fund. LEGION DRAW WINNERS Mrs. Ted Morrow drew the winning tickets in the Legion Auxiliary St.Patrick's Draw. Lucky winners were Jack Yates (Terrace Bay) $50. and Mrs. Bill Mullins (Schreiber) $25. ~ March 25, 1965 NEW LIGHTS INSTALLED IN PUBLIC SCHOOL airman of the property committee, J.N.Ross, reported at the public school board March meeting that new lights have been installed in the four class- rooms in the school annex. From information re- ceived from Midaleson and Fraser, the Board believe that with minor adjustments the lighting in the new school will be up to standard. In reply to the Board's inquiry regarding a report of health inspections by nurse, the Public Health Unit stated they do not send such reports to schools. Accounts and salaries amounting to $6,347 were approved for payment. Principal H.M.Ermel stated the enrollment is now 226 and February attendance was 97.8. A new salary schedule, effective September Ist, was presented and will be dealt with at a special meeting before the end of this month when the 1965 budget is set. The Board expressed their pleasure in having W. G.Davis, Minister of Education, send a personal letter of congratulation to W.S.Harris, their secre- tary-treasurer, commending him on his long service to the board and in the field of education. GUIDE-BROWNIE CEREMONIES HELD An audience of over 100 met in the Guild Hall to see the Brownie ceremonies when sixteen Tweenies were received into the Pack - 18 Brownies received Golden Bars and thirty were awarded Service Stars. Karen Guina, Kathy Guina and Debbie Jolicoeur were presented with Proficiency Badges and also with the Golden Hand, signifying their readiness to enter the Guides. The Tweenies were Rosanne Speziale, Paula Gauthier, Linda Huard, Karen Kushnieryk, Denise Perras, Maureen Hencher, Cathy Bottomley, S andra Chatterson, Donna Noonan, Donna McGrath, Mary Figliomeni, Devona Leisander, Cathy Cocks, Sheryl! Carnes, Linda Singleton and Mary Bourke. Golden Bars were presented to Jewell Paradis, Ann Bailey, Isley Crawley, Beth Ross, Darlene Desmoulin Judy Parent, Betty Ann Huard, Sharon Scott, Lauren Kusik, Karen Glad, Debbie Cook, Diane Huard, Susan Huard, Cathy McGuire, Cathy Anderson, Laura McParland, Laura Campbell and Susan Comeau Service stars were received by Kathy and Karen Guina, Debbie Jolicoeur, Jewell Paradis, Ann Bailey, Isley Crawley, Beth Ross, Darlene Desmoulin Judy Parent, Betty Ann Huard, Sharon Scott, Laureen Kusik, Karen Glad and Karolyn Fadden, Dawn Deitrich, Maureen Campbell, Darlene Guillet, Kathy Bottomley, Catherine McGuire (Continued...
