Photo by |.McCuaig BOY SCOUT INVESTITURE Chris Lang, John Souliere and Gordon Ellicott were invested by Scoutmaster John Kenderdine at their regular meeting, with lan Cameron of Terrace Bay, District Scoutmaster, attending. Later during the evening Mr.Cameron presented Leaping Wolf badges to Michael Spadoni, Michael McGrath, Clayton Gordon and Gerald McGrath. Ted Hill, formerly of First Pinegrove Troop, Hum- ber-Seneca, was welcomed in the local Troop by assistant scoutmaster Russell Campbell . Scoutmaster Campbell addressed the boys, trans- lating the vows they made. as scouts into boy lan- guage and relevant to their everyday life. It was reported that the sum of $54.85 had been raised for the funds by a bake sale. During the weekend the boys attended Church Parade and were given a conducted tour of the Kimberly-Clark Paper Mill in Terrace Bay. 6TH ANNUAL TELEGRAPHERS BONSPIEL The Railroad Telegraphers held their 6th Annual Bonspiel on February 27th at the Schreiber Curling Club - a round robin event. Winners were:- First event - Schreiber Rink skipped by Peter Doig, Barry Harper third, Peter Christie second and Carl Pearson lead. Each received individual trophies and the rink won the Telegraphers Trophy, compli- ments of Chairman Jack Whent. The second event was won by Bob Turner, Alex Krystia, Larry Tremblay and Bill Niemi all of whom received prizes compliments of McLeods Ltd. of Fort William and The Camera Shop. (Continued ..) GROUPS PLAN TO COMBAT OBSCENE LITERATURE President Mrs. T. P. Whent was named delegate to a con- ference of United Church Wo- men at Minaki at the regular meeting March .3 of Schreiber branch. This conference, slated for September 10-12, represents a new trend in such meetings, being ecumenical in character, with a definite effort to induce women of other faiths to attend. Speaker Miss Helen Turnbull of New York City and Mrs. S. R. Collings of Ottawa are chosen Particularly for this occasion. Mrs. Bill Gerow reported a successful Valentine tea and outlined plans for tea March 13. The CGIT were given per- mission to operate a candy booth at this tea. Mrs. Forbes Macadam, sewing convener, reported her group had completed and sold four rr quilts, with two others on order. Mrs. Macadam asked for dona- tions of prints suitable for mak- ing aprons. Mrs. Bill Kinney stated she and Mrs. Steve Petruschak have completed a succeSsful canvass for orders for the United Church Observer and that a special film has been ordered for the month of April. Mrs, R. G. Macadam was ap- pointed to represent the UCW at the meeting in St. Martin's hall in Terrace Bay March 18 by the committee attempting to stop the distribution of obscene and pornographic literature. It was decided to add a deli- catessen counter and home bak- ing to the St. Patrick's Day tea. Members agreed to attend and sell tickets for the Mary Logan cooking school being held in Terrace Bay April 28. The an- nual smorgasbord was set for May 5. Mrs. David Gunter, vice-pres- ident presided for the regular meeting of the Canadian Legion Ladies Auxiliary March 2, Plans were made to cater for coffee break at the Legion zone meeting being held in Schreiber on March 13, Mrs. Russell Macadam _in- stalled Mrs. Ralph Hewson and Mrs. Bob Gray to the executive council. A suggestion to change North- western Ontario into three dis- tricts rather than the present two will also be supported, if presented at the annual conven- tion. It was agreed to conduct a canvass for funds for the Salva- tion Army, with Mrs. Bruce Lidkea as chairman, A letter was read from a committee composed of the clergy of both Schreiber and Terrace Bay and representa- tives from various churches, who have organized to combat 'distribution of obscene and por- nographic literature locally. The Knights of Columbus are providing financial assistance for the effort. Mrs. Alf Bull agreed to act as auxiliary re- presentative for a meeting in Terrace Bay March 18. Mrs. Hewson was named to arrange decorations for the Le- gion St. Patrick's Day social: with Mrs. Lidkea in charge of. lunch. Mesdames D. Gunter, K. S. Davis, and Hobden Spikula will attend the district auxiliary meeting in Nipigon March 27. A monster rummage sale with white elephant booth, bake sale, and coffee hour, was plan- ned for May 1 in the Guild hall, The Kinettes' request for loan of screens and coffee urn for their fashion show was granted. Mrs. Davis and president Mrs. Bill Paradis agreed to take charge of baseball tickets, the only fund raising project dur- ing the summer months. MUSIC EXAMINATION RESULTS In recent examinations con- ducted by the Western Conserv- atory of Music, piano pupils of Mrs. J.
