FATHER AND SON BANQUET HELD IN COMMUNITY CHURC One hundred and forty-two Fathers and their sons attended the Sixteenth Annual Boy Scout Father and Son Banquet in the Terrace Bay Community Church, Saturday evening. The Ladies Auxiliary of the Church catered for the banquet Very Rev. Dean E.A. Gallagher said the Blessing followed by a toast to the Queen. Tom Knight was the pianist. Following the dinner Graham Coe introduced the head table guests. A toast to the Fathers was proposed by David Cruickshank, with. Mr. Forbes responding. Samuel Harris thanked the Ladies Auxiliary for catering to their banquet. Chairman H.J. Coe reviewed the Scouting activities and events of the past year and announced that relatives of the late Herman Roberts were providing a memorial fund to help perpetuate the memory of Mr. Roberts. Herman had been associated with the Scout movement for over thirty years and had been a most valuable member of the local Group Committee. It was. decided that a Herman Roberts Memorial Shield will be awarded to the Scout who has made the most progress in Scouting in the past year. addition the Group Committee hopes to be able to send a Cub or a Scout Leader to a Leader training course when possible. By this means the Group Committee hope to improve Scouting in Terrace Bay and also perpetuate the memory of Herman Roberts. District Commissioner R. Wiils in reporting on the Scout movement in the Pic River area stated that a District Committee to serve Mani- touwadge, Marathon, Schreiber and Terrace Bay had been formed in order to consolidate the Scout activities in this area. As a member of the Committee Commissioner Wills announced that Scout David Shivas had been selected to receive the Herman Roberts Memoria: Shield for the progress he had made in Scouting during the past year. DISTRICT DEPUTY VISITS SILVER BIRCH CHAPTER Honoring the visit of their District Deputy Grand Matron, Mrs. M. Baxter of Atikoken, Silver Birch Chapter 264, Order of Eastern Star held a delicious dinner in the Community Church Hall, Tuesday evening February 23rd. Many members from the different Lakehead Chapters were in attendance. Grace was said by Rev. T.G. Husser, P.P. Toastmaster was Worthy Patron A. Farrow who proposed the toast to the Queen. Mrs. H. Coe proposed the toast to the Grand Chapter of Ontario to which Mrs. M. Baxter, D.D.G.M. replied. The Toast to the visitors was: given by Mrs. Jessie MacAdam and ably responded to by Mrs. Pearl Bell. Convenors for the very delightful dinner were Mrs. Elsie Ostling, Mrs. A. Sinkins and Mrs. Eva Haughn. Worthy Matron E. Beddard and Worthy Patron A.
