Howe had become known as Mr. Canada, and George Wardrope was now equally well-known as Mr. Northwest, for insistence of recognition of the needs, the beauty and the wealth of yet-untapped resources. Councillor F.V. Harness paid tribute to Mr.Ward- rope for the aid he had given in the building of a new subway in Schreiber which had resulted in lowering the cost of the project to the already tax- burdened ratepayers. McCuaig spoke briefly of long years' associ- ation with Mr. Wardrope when he had assisted with many Schreiber projects before he entered politics and the ready attention given since then to any ap- peal for the community well-being. | i Following the meeting, Mr. & Mrs. J.L. Commisso entertained in honor of Mr. & Mrs. Wardrope. REBEKAH LODGE PLAN DINNER Mrs. J. Plummer, NG and Mrs. O. Wright, VG, were in charge of the regular meeting of Ruby Rebe- kah Lodge, #279 on September 11th. The Charter was draped in memory of the late William Spicer. Mrs. Wright, accompanied by Mrs. A. Bryson, sang Beautiful Isle of Somewhere. Mrs. E. Grover of Prince Rupert, B.C. lodge and Mrs. G. Madigan of Chapleau Sincerity Lodge, were welcomed as visitors. Mrs. M. Slater reported on the district meeting at | the Lakehead where Mrs. D. Gibb, Greenstone Lodge, D.D. had presided. Mrs. Polhill was elected Dist. Secretary. Plans were announced for the Presi- dent's dinner in September. Arrangements were made to honor the visit of Mrs. M. MacDonald on Sept. 25th with a dinner in Schreiber Hotel - those wishing tu attend to give their names to Mrs. Wright. The VG gave a lengthy sick and visiting report for the summer recess. A birthday bank will be in- augurated at the next meeting with each member to "count her years by pennies". Following the meeting penny auction was played. CATHOLIC GIRLS ELECT OFFICERS Marion Prescott presided for the September meeting of the Catholic Girls' Club with 39 members attendin and five new ones welcomed. Mrs. H. Shack and Father Cano, directors, were present and Rev. Cano presided for the election of new officers: Mantell Cosgrove, Pres; Anna Fummer- ton, Vice=Pres; Georgette LeBlanc, Sec; Betty Com- eau, Treas; Marion Prescott, Spiritual Convenor. The retiring President thanked Father Cano and M-s. Shack for their guidance and inspiration and the members for their support during her year. It was decided to again sell Christmas cards. The crowning of the Blessed Virgin Mary was set for the month of October. The door prize was won by Joanne Comeau. The new members were Barbara Stefurak, Noreen Need- ham, Cathie LeBlanc, Mary McGrath and Susanne Chicoine. Mrs. L. Weddel of Sharon, Ont. visited with Mrs. Forbes Macadam last week. THE NEWS | baby pink mums. COSTA-MINELLA VOWS EXCHANGED White mums adorned St. Dominic's Roman Catholic Church in Ft. William on August 5th for the marriage of Albert; son of Mrs. D. Costa and the late Mr. Costa of Schreiber and Laura, daughter.of Mr. and Mrs. Cosimo Minella of Ft. William. The double ring ceremony was solemnized by Father China, assisted by Father Tremblay. Miss Mary Bottos was organist and Miss Virginia Fortas the soloist. Ushers were J. Speziale and J. Commisso and groomsmen were T. Costa and A. Minnella. The bride, given in marriage by her father, chose a floor length lace gown having a fitted bodice with long sleeves and round neckline , finished with scalloping embroidered with pearls and sequins. The tiered skirt was displayed over hoops. Her half len length veil was held by a brilliant tiara and she carried a crescent of red roses and iceberg mums. Attendants were Miss Rose Minella, sister of the bride, Mrs. N.T. Commisso, sister of the groom, Linda Commisso, flower girl and Lawrence Minnella, ring bearer. The senior attendants were gowned in dusty rose peau de soie sheaths, rhinestone hair bandeaux and carried crescent bouquets of pink tinted iceberg mums The flower girl wore a frock of white silk organza, the embroidered full skirt tied with a pale pink sash. A single pink rose adorned her hair and she carried Following the ceremony, a reception was held in the Italian hall when Mrs. Minnella received in a blue linen sheath with jacket, matching hat and accessories and corsage of Delight roses. Mrs. Costa chose aqua brocade with brief matching jacket, hat and accessories in white and corsage of roses. The wedding cake was cut by Mrs. F. Gagliardi and toast to the bride and groom given by the latter's uncle, D. Diano of Schreiber. Mr. and Mrs. Costa drove to Southern Ontario for their honeymoon and are making their home in Schreiber. The roll call was answered with bouquets of gar- den flowers, later distributed among shut-ins. Mrs. T. Whitton gave a report on the area convention held in Ft. Frances on September 5th & 6th.
