Parents had' heeded the warnings and kept their children indoors. The Shopping Plaza, except for a few hardy individuals who were peering through smoked glass etc., was almost deserted. We encountered one group of visit- ors to the town alighting from their car who exclaimed at the sudden chill and "how dark it's getting" then suddenly one said "it's the time of the eclipse" and the whole group proceeded to look up.
