NEW BUSINESS IN SCHREIBER Schreiber Business took another step down Drummond Street last Saturday when the Thunder Bay Co-op Dairy Bar opened its door for business. In spite of the rainy day business was brisk and it's a sure bet that, come sunny days, the small fry will keep the proprietors busy. Not long ago another shingle made its appearance on this street when the Schreiber Tackle & Sport Shop, managed by Mr.& Mrs. Don Wilkinson, opened for business. With filling stations, Motels and dining rooms making their appearance on or near Highway 17, this could indicate a trend away from the long-estab~ lished business blocks on Scotia Street. eh ee ee : 3. ee Photo by W. Morrill = TOM McCUAIG HONORED ~ A large group of friends met in the home of Paul Gauthier on Saturday evening for a stag honoring Tom McCuaig, whose marriage to Miss Marilyn Luck takes place in Fort William on July 20. The party arrange- ments were made by Tony Speziale & Jim McCuaig. and a presentation made on behalf of the group Reeve D'Arcy and all members attended the July COUNCIL QUOTES council meeting with clerk R.C. Skinner and road Supt. Edmund Borutski. Use of the new thawing equipment was discussed and it was decided to advise the public of the re- gulations governing use of same. (These are out- lined on the back of this page). Mr. Borutski was instructed to order a new hydrant and stock pipes for use, the present supply being too low. Mr. Harness stated the Cebrario firm will inspect the unsatisfactory fire hall roof. A water bill was sent to the recently opened Link- on Hotel with a reminder that the adjacent unsightly and unsanitary premises must be cleaned up. A new By/law governing transient traders of all classes selling any type of merchandise within the town was given its first reading. Correspondence from the Liquor Board was received concerning the vote to be taken here on September 6th. Further information was received from the Ontario Municipal Board regarding the subway. Local barbers asking through their union for better closing hours, were informed that these should be arranged by themselves, unless an unanimous petit- ion is presented to council. Councillor Harness stated two litter receptacles have been received and will shortly be installed. Unless, of course, the public co-operate by placing all trash within these, the streets cannot be kept clean and the order for more will depend on the use of these. Water works accounts totalling $656.69 and gen- eral accounts of $8,526.70 were ordered paid. KINSMEN SPONSOR DONKEY BASEBALL The Kinsmen will sponsor Donkey Baseball here, for the first time, on Thursday, July 18, at 7 P.M. in the Ball Park, providing entertainment for all ages.
