POLICE MOVE TO CURB TOBACCO SALES Action is being taken by the Terrace Bay Police Dept. to curb the use of tobacco products by children under sixteen. The following is a copy of a letter being distributed in the Town by the Police Department. Due to the increasing use of tobacco products by Juveniles and in view of recent publicity by the CANADIAN MEDICAL ASSOCIATION, it is deemed expedient to enforce the TOBACCO RESTRAINT ACT within Terrace Bay. For your information the following Sections of this Act are outlined: Section 2: Everyone is guilty of an offence and liable to a penalty who directly or indirectly sells, gives, or furnishes to a person under the age of I6 years, which he knows or has reason to believe is for the use of that person. Section 4: (1) Everyone is guilty of an offence and liable who being under the age of I6 years, smokes any tobacco products on any street or public place or purchases for his own, use any tobacco product. Also quoted for your information from the MINORS PROTECTION ACT is the following: Section 2: (2) The above sections do not apply to the sale to a child for his parent or guardian under a written request or order of the parent or guardian. Thank you for your co-operation. = VANDALISM - AGAIN Despite continued pleas for the co-operation of parents and youngsters to help keep our community safe, clean and attractive, we continue to have more and more cases of vandalism. Every morning we have a fresh supply of sticks and stones in our new pool, thrown over the fence by youngsters whose parents have not taken the time to talk to them about vandalism. Newly - painted walls have been marked with footprints, crayon and chalk. Bottles and stones have been thrown on ball fields, play areas and sidewalks. Cigarettes are butted on floors instead of in ash- trays and candy wrappers thrown anywhere but into the containers supplied . THINK BEFORE YOU ACT?" TALK TO YOUR CHILD". Let's do away with these senseless costly acts and help keep Terrace Bay safe, clean and attractive.
