= THE NEWS i. COMMUNION BREAKFAST SERVED BY C.WeL. The Catholic Women's League held their regular meeting on Sunday evening in the Guild Hall with Mrs. W. Cocks presiding, Mrs. W. Sheehan reading minutes and Mrs. A. O'Keefe giving the treasurer's report. Correspondence read by Mrs. G McParland included a letter pertaining to the annual high school bursary fund, and a letter from Mrs. C. Bedard, Diocesan president. Standing convenors' reports: Mrs. S. Kusik, spiritual, stated breakfast had been served to 20 children making their first communion, and the Rosary said daily during the month of May and also on the day of Pope John's death. Mrs. H. Shack announced the annual Catholic Girls picnic has been planned for mid-July. Mrs. H, Prescott, citizenship, reported CWL mem- bers were active on the public library board and in welfare work. Mrs. G, Gauthier, Brow- nies, stated outdoor meeting had been held during May and Golden Bars presented to several girls, All convenors were asked to give reports to Mrs. Sheehan, Members were reminded of their donations toward tiling the kitchen, to be given to Mrs. O'Keefe, Plans for the summer picnic were discussed, and plans for a penny sale on the Labor Day field day. ST. JOHN'S W.A. MEET Mrs. J.D. Bryson presided for the last regular meeting of St. John's Church Women's Auxiliary before summer recess, held in Mrs, C,. Sparkes'? home on June 12th. A menu was planned and submitted to the St. John A/N for their annual inspection din- ner on June 26th. The Fathers* Day tea was June 15 in the Church hall. Donations were made to the Church camp at Sandstone Lake and to the Canadian Bible Society. Mrs. J. Corbett reported on visiting sick members and sending various cards. The devotional period was taken by Mrs. W.G. Furlonger and minutes were read by Mrs. C. Sparkes. WOMEN'S INSTITUTE SET DATE FOR PICNIC The Women's Institute held their regular June meeting on June 11th with Mrs. N. Smith presiding. 16 members answered the roll call with houseplant slips, and many guests were welcomed, among them Mrs. Violet Barrie of Port Arthur, sister of Mrs. W. Thrower. Mrs. Thrower read a report on the recent W.I. annual convention in Murillo, Mrs, Robt. Winters offered her camp at Terrace Beach for the annual picnic, the date set for August 14, with a potluck lunch. Mrs. Smith presented an amusing reading on Fathers. In response to Rossport W.I. members who have recently disbanded their unit, a warm welcome was sent to join the Schreiber unit. A donation was made to the Canadian Bible Society. It was decided not to order a short course for the Fall. Following the meeting penny auction was played and the door prize, an angel cake, made by Mrs. W. Miller, was Wen by Mrs, C. Wright. The tea table was centred with a low bowl 1 June 20, 1963 get-me-nots, flanked by white tapers. Mr. and Mrs. Forbes Macadam, nee Jessie Robinson, will mark their Golden Wedding Anni- versary on June 24th by holding Open House in | their home from two to five in the afternoon and from eight to ten in the evening. | | The Cub Leaders are most grateful for the generous response by parents to provide trans- poration for the 53 cubs attending the Cuboree in Marathon, the second such gathering in this part of Canada. The Kinsmen will again have their Field Day on July lst, beginning with children's races at 10.00 in the morning in the Ball Park - the parade to start at 1 P.M. from the High School with flags, balloons and other favors for the small tots and prizes for costumes. The Schreiber Tackle and Sport Shop held a successful opening day on June lst with Mrs. Gus Krause winning the door prize of a fish- ing outfit of rod, reel and fishing tackle. The shop, on Drummond Street, is operated by Mrs. Evelyn Wilkinson. Mrs. Gordon McParland won the food hamper annually raffled by the Ladies Softball League Mr.& Mrs. Mel Davis of Dartmouth, N.S., are holidaying with the Ken Davis am Bill Lidkea families. Mr.& Mrs. Walter Ilijow are in Vancouver to attend the wedding of their niece Gloria Molinski. Milton Moran who spent his boyhood in Schreiber when his father was Chief Despatcher was here this week renewing old acquaintances. Parents and friends were present to see the Going---Up Ceremony when Cubs Doug Cuthbertson, 2nd Star, Clay Gordon, 2nd Star, Carl Wood 2nd Star and Dennis Levigne lst Star, were pre- sented by Cubmaster Mrs, Lillian Christie to Scoutmaster Alan MacFadyen. Roly Wills, district Scout Commissioner of Terrace Bay was present to commend the boys and speak briefly on scouting. The following members of Ruby Rebekah Lodge #279 will be attending the Rebekah Assembly of Ontario in Toronto from June 17 to 19th-- Mrs. Dora Weaver, PNG - representatives Mrs. Florence Whent, PNG, Scholar, Mrs. Beatrice Ridsdale, on guard of honor for the incoming Assembly President and Mrs, Mavis Slater, color bearer for the Assembly. D.A. Carmichael, Fred Hewitt and Douglas Grimes of Wardrope Associates, Port Arthur, were here on Wednesday to confer with the Municipal Council on water problems. Mr.& Mrs. Lorne Nesbitt and son Jeffrey of Castlegar, B.C., are the guests of Mr. and Mrs. Ghas. Nesbitt. Mr.& Mrs. Stanley Collins of Toronto are visiting old friends here, the guests of Mr. and Mrs. V.E,Everitt. Keith Caldwell of Aylmer is visiting with Mr.& Mrs. Hugh Stewart and other relations. Mrs.Caldwell and Kathy will join him after a visit with relatives in the West. Mrs. E,Nesbitt marked her son Kenny's 7th birthday on June 13th with a party for fifteen
