Y Vol.5, No.23 CHAMBER OF COMMERCE REPORT An appeal was launched by Jim Hale to the Chamber of Commerce Council Thursday evening, to amalgamate merchantst donations to the Kiwanis Fish Derby, by a single donation from the Chamber or co-sponsorship of the event. As the only service organization in Terrace with a lengthy record of Welfare work behind them, Mr, Hale's approach was felt worthy of consideration. President, C.E, Paget, stated this event would be promotional of Terrace Bay and scheduled a decision for the next meeting when it was hoped a larger representa~ tion of the merchants would be present. Minutes of the past meeting of the Chamber's Council were read by the Secretary J. Kelty and all correspondence dealt with. Members were pleased to note an improvement to Radio Station CJLX now operating with 10,000 watts, giving a Class A signal, the most powerful broadcasting station along the North Shore, A letter from the Liquor Control Board of Ontario advised they had approved a six day week for the Terrace Bay store, to commence June 11, through to September 15, Norm Kelly reported for the Aguasabon Gorge Committee, illustrating his proposals and outlining costs, A discussion on expendi- tures found Mr, Kelly authorized to act on behalf of the Chamber of Commerce to spend up to $360.00 for the development and safeguard~ ing of the route to the Aguasabon Gorge. Signs will be purchased to indicate the route from the Highway to the Gorge and limitations of viewing area, = Chairman of the Tourist Rooms Committee, Neil Cornthwaite outlined in detail the requirements as listed in applications. Rather than require individuals to join the Chamber of Commerce in order to have a room listed, this service will be provided free of charge to Chamber members and non-members will be charged a fee of Five Dollars. ~ Applications will be made available within th week and will be required in for perusual by the 11th of June, The committee promised immediate action on inspection and preparation of the final approved Tourist Rooms list fol- lowing that date. This list will be held by the two Motels and Hotel to be filled as near as possible, on a rotation 'basis. The next meeting of the Chamber of Commerce Council was arranged for Thursday, June 7 at 7:30 P.M., in the small meeting room of the Recreation Centre. CREDIT GIVEN TO WRONG ORGANIZATION Last week credit was given to the Lion's Club for adding materially to the appearance of the Schreiber Rink, We now learn that the Citizen's Rink Committee were responsible for the improvements and give credit where it is properly duce June 7, 1962° SWIMMING POOL MEETING FRIDAY A public meeting regarding the proposed Swimming Pool will be held this Friday evening at 8 P.M. in the High School Auditorium, At that time, a full explanation of plans for construction, site, design, financing etc., will be given and questions answered. At the end of last week, letters and pledge cards were delivered to the homes by members of Teen Town, Those wishing to support the Pool Project were to sign the pledge cards so that they could be picked up last Monday. These were to be delivered to the householders IN PERSON. Anyone who was not at home at the time of delivery or on the subsequent return visit may pick up copies of the letters at the Mill (J, Heenan or M, Campbell) or from the Recreation Office, PLEASE RETURN SIGNED PLEDGE CARDS BEFORE FRIDAY, if at all possible, This will give us an idea of the success of the project, prior to the meeting. TERRACE BAY HOCKEY ASSOCIATION ANNUAL MEETING The annual meeting will be held in the large meeting room at the Recreation Centre on Monday, June 11th at 8: P.M. to elect new officers for the coming term and to vote on proposed changes in the Constitution, NOMINATIONS (1) The executive will appoint a Nominating Committee who will then suggest a slate of officers for the following posts:- (a) President - (b) Vice President - c) Treasurer - (d) Secretary - e) Publicity Manager - (f) Finance Chairman plus a two man Committee (2) Nominations will be accepted from the floor if the nominated person is present to | signify his willingness to run OR if the nominated person is not present but has pre-~ viously written to the Secretary signifying his. willingness to run, CHANGE IN CONSTITUTION - All proposed changes to the Constitution must be in the hands of the Secretary (Eliza- beth Burns, 88 Hudson Drive) in writing, fourteen days BEFORE the annual meeting, TENNIS CLINIC HERE JUNE 14th On Thursday, June 14th, Mr, George Mansfield, professional at the Toronto Granite Club and travelling instructor for the | Canadian Junior Lawn Tennis Association, will return to Terrace Bay to conduct clinics sponsored bu the Pepsi-Cola Company of Canada. This is the third year that these clinics have been made available to communites from coast ~ to coast, and local players who have received instruction from Mr, Mansfield in the past, (Continued on Page 7)
