WELFARE COMMITTEE ANNUAL MEETING Map ag sero te gs ance onetacras lalate Corporal Ford Richardson, OPP; presided for the annual meeting of the Welfare and Transient conmittee which met in the court room with six attending, A thorough discussion followed the financial report and it was unanimously a- greed to continue the program which was instigated in 1954 by Corporal Richardson, Rev, J, Turner and the late Dean J,C, McHugh. The fund was established to do away with the need for door to door begging by un- fortunates and has been most successful in this pu®pose, The cases are screened by this committee and the fund administered by the OPP local detachment, Gas has been provided for those stranded in cars, railway fares, for others, and many meals, Most gratifing to the committee are the deeply appreciative letters received from those in desperate circumstances who have been assisted, The committee is grateful to the Terrace Bay council and Legion for their donations toward the fund, The local. plan for dealing with the problem has evoked many inquiries from other communities who have heard of its success and wish to start a similar one, Donations are welcomed from any organi- zation or private citizen and may be directed to Corporal Richardson. MINOR HOCKEY BANQUET MAY 26th All players, coaches, managers and. re= ferees connected with Minor Hockey last year, are reminded of the Annual Banquet and Awards Night to be held at the High School Auditorium on May 26th, Festivities will commence at 5.30 P.M. MAY 26th MOVIE CANCELLED Due to the many activities, including the Minor Hockey' Banquet, that are scheduled for May 26th, the regular movie "African © Lion", previously scheduled for that date, has been CANCELLED, -- ee ee ROLLER SKATING STARTS NEXT THURSDAY Another Roller Skating season opens next Thursday at the Terrace Bay Arena, with several new improvements to add to the fun and enjoyment of skaters, -- A new system of floor sealing has been tried to prevent dust conditions that have been a problem in the past, This, combined with the fact that all but a few of the skatcg now have the new plastic wheels, guarantee safe comfortable skating, In addition, a new (Continued on Page 11)
