Vol.4, No.36 DETAILS OF NEW STAMP ANNOUNCED BY POST OFFICE Details of the recently announced special postage stamp that illustrates Canada's renewable natural resources were recently revealed to the public by the Postmaster General, the Hon, William Hamilton. The stamp will be released on the 12th October, 1961. In making the announcement, Mr. Hamilton recalled that the new stamp is part of the Post Office Department's contribution to the Resources for Tomorrow programme being in- augurated at the Federal-Provincial Con- ference in Montreal this October. He added that the stamp which symbolizes the close link between the wheels of industry and Canada's renewable natural resources will serve as a small billboard to make all who see it, in Canada and abroad, conscious of the economic importance of these resources and the constant need of their careful husbandry. The new stamp will be hand engraved and will show two hands holding up a five-spoked cogwheel.. Seen between the spokes of the wheel are modernistic sketches representing water resources, agriculture, forestry, wildlife and fisheries. Across the top of the stamp, the words: "Resources for Tomorrow'? and "Richesses renouyelables" appear, The five-cent denomination and the word Canada are placed at the bottom of the stamp under the words "Postage-Postes"*, The hands and lettering will be printed in brown and the wheel, sketches and background will be light green, Thirty-five million stamps are to be printed, The stamp was designed by noted Canadian artist A, L, Pollock of Toronto, who also designed the fifty-cent Textiles stamp and the twenty-five cent Chemistry stamp, both of which are currently in use. A near riot which saw almost every member of the East Ends and Terrace Bay Comets in a melee at home plate, won Enders a berth in the Senior baseball finals. A wild free-for-all which erupted in the eighth inning of the seventh game at Port Arthur Stadiuwa last Tuesday night paved the way for the East End's 4-3 victory over Terrace Bay. Comets two man pitching staff of Rex Taylor and Carl Kolody were thrown out of the game. The Enders were ahead 2-0, when centre fielder Ken Ward was trying to score on a grounder hit to the pitcher, when he ran smack into East End's catcher Rudy Migay. Migay was guarding the plate about ten feet out when Ward hit him, Migay came up swinging and Ward retaliated. From all reports Ken got in a few good punches when East Ends Manager Louis Tocheri grabbed him, Besides Taylor and Kolody getting the thumb, Tocheri, Migay, Antonazzi and Brian Latta of the East Ends were also given the heave ho, With Kolody and Taylor gone from the game, the Comets had to go with Ricky Polhill and the Comets opened up a 3-2 lead. -But the Enders came back with a run in the eighth and a run in the ninth when Rick walked in the winning run. Rick gave all he had but for a guy who has just pitched a few games this year, he just didn't have enough. : Thus the Comets end a fairly good season and this writer on hehalf of the Terrace Bay Baseball Association wishes to congratulate each and everyone of the players, Manager Jack Thomas and Ken Ward, who so capably took over the team during Jack's vacation.and 'the balance of the play offs. : WINTER GAMES ROOM SCHEDULE With the opening of the school year, the winter schedule for the Games Room in the ' Recreation Centre will be resumed as follows: Week days - public use 10 A.M. to 4 P.M, and 8 P.M, to 11 P.M, Teen Town cnly 4 P.M, to 8 P.M, Fridays - public use 10 A.M. to 4 P.M, Town only 4° P.M, to 11 P.M, Saturdays = Public School students 10 A.M. to 2 P.M.
