June 8, 1961 REV, DEAN E.Ae GALLAGHER HONOURED Honouring the Silver Jubilee of the Very Reverend Dean E,A,Gallagher on his Ordina- tion as a Priest of God, Parishioners of St. Martin's Roman Catholic Church in Terrace Bay and friends filled the Parish Hall to capacity Tuesday evening, May 30th, Mr. W.E. Cavanaugh spoke of thepleasure his Parish- ioners took in paying tribute to their : beloved Pastor on such an auspicious occa- sion, They were pleased also to welcome visiting Clergy, guests from the Lakehead and many friends from the District, Beginning with the children of the Parish, Mr,Cavanaugh presented Michael Gombola and Lita Marie Boudreau, Michael -said-'Little folk though we be, We too want a share in -- the joys of your Silver Jubilee" and of their hope that the Dean remain on, even until his Golden Jubilee, giving the Dean a Scroll, Lita Marie presented a Spiritual Bouquet to Father Gallagher and listed off it's Pledges, Representing the Highschool youth of the Parish, Ed Kenneyreala Scroll té Dean Gallagher before presenting it and Annette Boudreau listed the Catholic Girls! Club Spiritual Bouquet as well as making a pre- sentation of a.gift set of vestments, On behalf of his committee and the Par- ishioners, Mr,Cavanaugh congratulated Dean Gallagher on his Silver Jubilee and presen- ted ham with a purse. Dean Gallagher thanked his friends and, though being most grateful to the Parishioners, expressed a wish that this money be used toset up a bursary for the education of students for the Priesthood for foreign Missions. .Coming as a complete sur- prise to the people of the Church, Mr, Cavanaugh replied for them, "Since coming to Terrace Bay five years ago Dean Gallagher, through his unselfish efforts for the moral good of this Community, has become an insti- tution in our daily lives here, Perhaps, from selfish motives, the Anni- versary Committee felt that our Pastor was wearing himself out physically anda vaca- tion trip to Rome would also be to our advantage, : Although disappointed for the moment at the Dean's announcement, I must point out that mental contentment is often more impor- tant than physical fitness and the Bursary being our Pastor's wish, I know I speak for the Parish as a whole when.I. say that we are happy to concede to his wishes," Mr. Cavanaugh then gave credit to his hard-working committee of Mesdames E,Pineault J.Marcella, JShubaly, Bill Cavanaugh and Miss Cathy Smith, Messrs, G,Valiquette and M, Nicol, Canvass Chairman had been Mr, D.J.Gilles; Miss Smith had headed the Deco~.. ration Committee; Mrs J.
