"April. 30th, 1959 "ht > MINOR HOCKEY Both the Peewee All-Stars and the Bantams played home~and-home series with Ked Rock and also played host to Manitouwadge during the season. Final event of the hockey season will be the Annual Banquet on May 23rd. This will be sponsored by the active Ladies Auxiliary to Minor Hockey and invitations will be out shortly. In addition to the fine work done by the Minor Hockey Executive and by the Minor Hock- ey Ladies Auxiliary, many others contributed. invaluable aid. Providing coaching services were: Charlie Koski, Les Prvor and Cleon Smith in the Flyweight division: Lew Edmunds, Steve Brend, Doug Caldwell, Reg Payette, Butch Bouchard, Tody Fedun and Len Williams in the Peewee division: Ken McLeod, Barry Marquis, Jack Phillips, Tim Bond and Pete Adamo in the Peewee All-Star, Bantam and: Mid- get divisions, Other fellows helped greatly by handling the refereeing chores throughout the year, these being: Earl Knight, Bill Hanley, Frank Hanna, Frank Sechesky, T.Delaronde and Don Blom. Each and every one in this long list de- serves a hearty cheer for their contribution to a very successful year. CRIBBAGE TOURNAMENT Several local men have expressed interest in starting a cribbage tournament, to run one night a week until the end of May. Plans call for a registration fee of $1.00, this fee to be used to purchase cards, boards and a prize for the winners. Upon completion of the tournament, the equipment would remain at the Recreation Centre for use in future tour- naments, At present it appears that Wednesday night would be best for the majority of players, and the Curling Lounge the best location, Each player would play 2 sets per night, each set to be the best 2 out of 3 games. This would be a singles tournament, with each player meeting every other player in the tournament once. These would be scheduled on a master sheet. In the event that a play- er misses a~scheduled game, it could be played at home, So that we may get started as soon as possible, a registration date has been set, No further registrations will be taken after Wednesday, April 29th, IF YOU WANT TO TAKE PART: Register at the tool crib of Mill with Fred McMillan or at the Recreation Office with K. Ward, REMEMBER: Registration fee $1.00. Play will commence Wednesday, May 6th:in the Curling Club Lounge. DURELLE FIGHT Latest word on the Durelle fight in the Lakehead is that it has been re-scheduled for Saturday, May 23rd, in the Ft.William Gardens. Durelle, British light-heavyweight champion and ranked third contender in the world for Archie Moore's crown, will use this fight for a tuneup for his match with Moore in Montreal later in the summer, His oppon- ent will be a rising young American fighter, Benny Mason, a Golden Gloves champion who, since turning pro, has been advancing stead- ily. The funeral, on April 25th, was conducted by Rev.R.J.S.Inshaw from St. John's Anglican Church and burial was in Schreiber Cemetery. Pall bearers were Charles Holmes, Charles Nesbitt, Gino Caccamo, Edward Singleton, Neil Ross and Russell Skinner. Prior to this service. the Rebekah Lodge held their service in Gawley's Funeral Home.
