NORTH SHORE HOCKEY LEAGUE The North Shore Hockey League schedule is about complete and a quick look shows that Marathon have cinched the top spot with Superiors and Red Rock neck and neck for second place. Nipigon haven't a chance for the runner-up position but are in there for third place. There is an importance in gaining the second position as the semi-finals will be a seven game series; first place vs. third and second vs, fourth, The top rank team will have the advantage of playing four games on home ice, providing, of course, that the series would go the limit, Superiors have a break, for a change, in that the next five games give them four on home ice, They are at full strength and are working well together. The past week has shown some impressive wins 11-5 against Mar- athon on Marathon ice and an 8-1 victory against Nipigon Sunday afternoon. Their loss 7-5 on Thursday here against Marathon was given after a well played game in which the Mercs gained the odds during the first period Sunday was an indication of their team play and close checking methods. Nipigon were not | weak, they were closely back checked by the Superior forwards, met a stiff well combined defense and had the frustrating experience of; seeing their shots turned aside by stellar net minding. Red Rock will be here Thursday and again Sunday, Feb. 15th, neither the Royals nor the Superiors can afford to give each other a game advantage, which indicates that the games will be close and stiff. Royals, as in the past, are a team that work together have dogged determination and are heavy enough to give the Sups a hard time breaking into the defense zone, Superiors have the speed, their defense is as heavy but always have trouble with Jorgensen in the: net. Nipigon Flyers will play here Saturday night, Feb. 14th.Terrace and Nipigon always : play a top quality game. | | | Feb, 12th | | | | | i | The last game of the series will be played here against Marathon, Thursday, Feb,19th.
