CENOTAPH SERVICE IN For the second year the Veterans will hold an Armistice Day service at the Ceno- taph, All Veterans who can make arrange- wants to do 'so are urged to be present. The local Scouts, Cubs, Brownies and Guides will attend and a Colour Party from the local Arny Unit will take part in the Service, School children and, of course, the Public, are cordially invited to attend this service in honour of those gallant men and women who gave their lives for their Country. Veterans, the Colour Party and other groups (are to assemble at the Arena at 10:20 A.M. on November llth, The order of Service is as follows: 10,30.4.M, - March to Cenotaph 10,45 A.M, - Service commences with / 0 CANADA Prayer - Hymn 11,00 A.M, - One Minute Silence 11,02 A.M. - Last Post - Laying of Wreaths -_ Hymn ~ Prayer GOD SAVE THE QUEEN In the evening on November llth, the Veterans of the Allied Armed Forces will attend the 7th Annual Banquet in the Moose Hall, beginning at 6:00 P.M, Any Veteran who has not yet picked up a ticket for this affair is urged to do so, The tickets cost $3.00 and entitle the Veteran to attend the Banquet and, in addition, he or she with a partner can enjoy the Armistice Dance which begins at 9:00 P.M, in the Moose Hall. The Veterans Committee, who have arrang- ed the entire proceedings for the day, have put a great deal of effort into making it all very worthwhile, So, Veterans, be sure that you are available for the Service, the Banquet and the Dance. RAY SIMONEAU MEMORIAL TROPHY Last year, for the first time, a beauti- ful trophy was awarded to the Most Valuable Player on the Superiors hockey team, 'Ray Samoneau won that award, This Trophy will now be known as "The Ray Simoneau Memorial Trophy" and each year it will be held by the player chosen as the most valuable to the Terrace Bay Superiors, This is a fitting tribute to the memory of a great hockey player, PUBLIC SPEAKING CONTEST ANNOUNCED On Friday evening, November 14th at 8 P.M. a Public Speaking Contest will be held in the Terrace Bay High School Auditorium, There will be twelve contestants, feur from each of the High Schools in Schreiber, Mar- athon and Terrace Bay, Each student will ai (Cont'd Page 3) Vol.l, No.15 November 6, 1958 DAY... Ceremony at the Cenotaph at 11:00 A.M, Following the ceremony, the Parade back to the Legion Hall, - The Public is cordially invited to attend this ceremony in which we all pay tribute to our Fallen Comrades, A Banquet will be held at the Town Hall at 6:30 P.M, for Legion members and their wives or lady friends and Auxiliary Members and their husbands or gentlemen friends. HIGH SCHOOL PRINCIPAL APPEALS FOR AWARDS | Se enya namingenteaetnny F,G,.Meek, Principal of the Schreiber High: Schdol has sent out an appeal for awards for 'scholastic progress, noting that, although there are nine cups and trophies for sports and athletics, until last year there were no awards for outstanding work in studies, the real purpose of a school, These scholastic awards were generous cash prizes given by local merchants, brother- hoods, the School Board and various societies in town and Mr. Meek is most hopeful that the practise will be carried on and the presenta- tions made by representatives of the donors at the school Commencement, an important night in the school year, ; All cheques issued for the purpose should be made out to The High School Prize-Money Fund and an early response will be much appre- ciated, At present the plan calls for a general froficiency prize for each of the five grades from 9-13, and prizes for the highest standings in individual subjects - English, Mathematics, Science, History, French, Latin, et cetera, © : ATTENTION SC IBER HOUSEHOLDERS | Sea Your ricer Club of Schreiber will conduct a house to house canvass for contributions (Cont'd Page 7)
