October 23, 1958 as Terrace Bay News a BILL HERRON VICTIM OF DROWNING ACCIDENT The people of Terrace Bay were deeply shocked to learn of the sudden death of William "Bill" Herron in a drowning accident on Tuesday, October 14th, in Lake Huron. Bill and his family were visiting his parents, Bill Herron and his family resided on Hudson Drive in Terrace Bay, Bill started to work for the Kimberly- Clark mill on September 16, 1948 as 2 3rd Class Stationery Engineer in the Steam Plant. He was subsequently promoted to lst Fireman, Recovery Boiler Operator, and Day Shift ws Engineer, He was selected amongst the first group of employees as a foreman trainee and on June 1, 1957 was promoted to a Steam Plant Tour Foreman, William L. Herron was born in Midland, Ontario on May 28, 1921. He served his country during the war in the RCN with the rank of SPO in charge of boiler room maintenance , etc. He worked in steam plants in eastern - Ontario prior to coming to Terrace Bay. Here he rose through the ranks receiving his Ontario . and Class Stationery Engineer's Certificate ~ and going on to a foreman's position. And as a foreman, he had earned and received the respect of the men on his shift, - Bill was an ardent outdoors man.
