Ww Page 8 TOWN TOPICS - SCHREIBER Terrace Bay News September 25, 1958 A bevy of little girls were invited to celebrate Rae Skinner's 12th birthday, Del Weberg left on Sept.19th to take treatment spending the afternoon at their favourite _1 in Deer Lodge Hospital, Winnipeg. Debra Ann Major's birthday was marked by a special cake brought here by her grandparents, Mr. & Mrs. George Etches of Cartier. Mrs. Albert Alcorn, Evelyn and David, were invited to share in the dainty confection. BRIDAL SHOWER FOR DONNA WATTS Miss Donna Watts, bride-elect of this month, was honoured at a shower tea arranged in the Anglican Church Hall when tea was poured by an aunt of Miss Watt's fiance, Mrs, Robert Win- ters and his Grandmother, Mrs,Jack Corbett, Mrs.T.Whitton received with Miss Watts who chose a trousseau frock in soft gray with black velvet and matching hat. The small tables were served by Mesdames Harry Duggan, Alvin Slater, Fred Crawley. Leo Bryar, Dalton Slater and Bill Graham, Mesdames W.J.Scott, H. McBride, G.Duncan, F,Harness, R.Kragero and 0,Laine replenished. Mrs.Neil Nesbitt attended the gift table and Mrs.Wesley Miller the guest book, Albert Morris celebrated his birthday on Sept.13th with the willing and jubilant aid of seven chums. Various games were played and the birthday supper, complete with cake, served by Albert's sisters Laura and Betty. WOMEN'S INSTITUTE MEETS Mrs.Bill Thrower presided for the regular September meeting of the Women's Institute when the highlight of the evening was the pre- sentation of two life memberships--Mrs,E, O'Connor's by Mrs.J.D.Bryson, and Mrs.Nelson Smith's by Mrs.Forbes Macadam, The roll call was answered by bouquets of flowers which were later distributed to invalids and shut- ins. The minutes and correspomcice were read by Mrs.D.Slater, with numerous thank-you notes read, The Treasurer's report was given by Mrs. R,G.Macadam, It was decided to spensor a course in salad making sometime in November, the exact date to be announced later. This is open to the public for the small fee of twenty-five cents., Mrs.O'Connor had the tea table arranged with garden flowers flanked by té2i crs.un tap- ers in chrome hoiders, special gift fron her sister Mrs.Hood of Pt.Arthur, to ma*k the occasion. CATHOLIC WOMEN'S LEAGUE MEETS The regular September meeting of the Cath- olic Women's League was opened with prayer by Very Rev.Dean McHugh, V.F. after which Mrs. J.Campbell conducted the business meet- ing. The treasurer's report, given by Mrs. J.G.Coleman, and the minutes by Mrs. W. Graham, were accepted as read. A letter was sent to the Kinsmen thanking them for use of the booth on Field Day. The raffle tickets, Mrs.G. Vaillancourt announced, were won by Mr.Pluehar, first, Mrs.S.Lamoreau, second and Tim Zettler, third. The door prize at the dance by 'Pic McCouan. Regular reports were made as follows: Welfare, Mrs. H.$hack; bingo, Mrs.C.Pearson education, Mrs.P.J.Syvitski; membership, Mrs.A.O'Driscoll. A letter was sent to N.Linkewich expressing appreciation of his securing a recent film much enjoyed by thos of the Catholic faith. A bake sale was decided upon for Septembe 20th, to be given in Dresswell Cleaners with Mrs.A.Moorey as convenor. An electri frying pan will be raffled during the mont! of November. September 21st will be Commut ion Sunday with Mrs. H,Duggan and Mrs. Vaillancourt as ushers. The Rosary.was said for Mrs,C,St,Jean, a deceased member. Mrs.R.Turcotte, a Coun- cillor, who is leaving Schreiber, was presented with a farewell gift. Mrs.and Mrs.Tommy Whent are visiting in Bu lineston and other centres in the East. During their absence Mrs,Geraid Whent, Richard and Gerry, of Wuite River, are managing the household here. Brian Stewart and Raoul Fournier have just returned from part ¢f' their Annual vaca- tion with time still left to visit in the immediate district. Mr. end Mrs.Hubert Weaver, Mr.Rill Spicer ard Koss Queenie Spicer spent their holi- days motoring in the States. The Huert Weaver's, after returning home, went East for further visiting. Miss Mary Cosgrove of Niagara-on-the Lake arrived home in time to help celebrate he: mother's birthday and will stay for her vacation, The Kinette hospital bed which is at the disposal of the Community may be secured by contacting either Mrs,Alex Gordon or Mrs.Bill Lidkea. Mr. & Mrs.Mike McGrath have bought the Renold Alcorn home on Hillview street, the latter family moving shortly to Fort William.
