SUPERIORS WRAP UP SEMI-FINALS SERIES AT HOME ; Thursday night Feb. 27 and Sunday March 2 the Terrace Bay Superiors took two straight games from Marathon Mercuries to beat last year's North Shore Champs in three games out of four in the semi-finals. Terrace won the first game in the series at Marathon. Marathon won the second game. On Thursday night Terrace were trailing behind a 2 to 1 score and it looked mighty like a win for Marathon, but Ray Simoneau, Diduch and Blom figured in the knock out punch by tieing the game at the 19.21 mark of the third period. This goal proved to be the knock out' punch as Superiors went on in the overtime period to notch up three unanswered goals. Sunday's game looked like Superiors game, until the third period. Marathon were. behind the eight ball on Sunday trailing -4:- 2 going into the third. The never-say-die Mercuries roared back in the third and r..:rlation time ended 4 to h. Agai: in Jhe overtime period Superiors . took command. At 6:36 in the overtime Simoneau and Osmar 'notched the goal that won the game and the series!!! Jack Lindquist added the insurance goal firing from a tricky angle into Marathon's open net. Hn The Minor Hockey League of Terrace' Bay have just received word that the Thunder Bay Minor Hockey Playdowns are to . be held here on Sat. and Sun. - March 29 & 30. Terrace Bay hopes to have an entry of Midgets (14 to 16 yrs). There will be Bantams 12 to 14 yrs. - Midgets 14 to 16 yrs -- and Juveniles 16 - 18 yrs. Three games will be played on Saturday, March 29th between the winners of the west zone, west of Fort William, and the winners of the east zone, east of Port Arthur. On Sunday, March 30th., the winners - of the west vs. east against the winners of Port Arthur vs. Fort William. This project undertaken by the Minor Hockey of Terrace Bay will reauire con- siderable helo from the people of Terrace Bay. We will have to try and billet the three entries from the west zone for Sat, night only. The entries will probably be from Kenora, Dryden or Fort Francis and will mean that there will be about 60 boys that we will have to billet for one night.
