Hee HORTICULTURAL SOCIRTY NEWS Many botanical facts are commonly seen in our daily lives but, like so many things, remain unnoticed. Anyone who has had a garden plot in the: past knows only too well the time, and expense, expended in what seems a never ending battle against cut-worms, June bugs, ants, potato bugs etc. Few gardeners however realize that... many insects are often attacked by our most primitive form of vegetation namely fungus. Several insects are known to be - attacked by fungi while in the larvae stage. For example, white grubs, larvae of the:June bugs, so destructive in diff- erent parts of Ontario, are checked materially by the attacks of fungi. The infected specimens may be recognized by the long, fleshy stalk of the fungus that projects from the under side of the body just back of the head. Wire worms, the larvae of the click-beetles, are also attacked by a similar fungus.
