SUPERIORS RALLY DOWNS NIPIGON 6 - "Smith, Stachiw, Kenney, and Caldwell were the big men in Terrace Bay's 6 - 4 triumph over a rugged Nipigon club last Saturday night. Smith with 2 goals and Stachiw with one gave the Suneriors a 3 = 3 tie after two periods of play and then with the score again tied at 4 all, Kenney came through with the most imvoortant goal of his short hockey career. Caldwell played a steady game in the next stonvping 25 of the 29 shots peppered at lim, many of them of the difficult variety. The Flyers thoroughly outplayed the Superiors in the first period leaving the ice with a 2 - 0 lead thanks to goals by Dahl and the alweys dangerous Herman Manilla, Sith and Stachiw pulled the Superiors out of the doldrums in the second period by scoring their 3 goals while Oja counted for Nipigon and the teams left the ice deadlocked at 3 all. Maurice Osmar onened the third period scoring only to have Iv +rtbin of Nipigon again tie up the came at 4 goals apiece, Kenney then came through with the winning goal and a few minutes later Whalen drove in an insurance marker end it was Terrace Bay's game 6 - 4. NIPIGON. OUTPLAYS SUPERIORS WINNING 5 ~ 2 Sunday just wasn't Terrace Bay's day so far as hockey was concerned. Nipigon's Flyers started out fast, maintained their ' pace and finished strong to overwhelm our Superiors 5 = 2, Nipigon deserved to win this game and they won it impressively. In this particular game they were clearly the better team, Although the game was tied up twice, Nipigon was always in command, Ruth was a pillar of strength in Nipigon's nets as time after. time he kicked out shots that had "goal" written all over them, (cont'd next col,) Nipigon outplays Superiors (cont'd) Maurice Osmar and Kenney were the lone marksmen for the superiors as they never could solve Nisigon's defense. To add insult to injury it was Nipigonts defense- men who provided the margin of victory. With the came tied at 2 all, Ward, then Swan and then Ward again scored for the Flyers to put the game beyond Terrace Bay's reach, Though the wrong team won as far as wetre concerned, the game itself was a dandy. It just points out once again, come play-off time, it doesn't matter one bit where a team finishes during the regular season, MONSTER ENTERTAINMENT NIGHT BIG SUCCESS Thanks to businessmen, merchants, and fine people in Terrace Bay, Schreiber and the lakehead, out lionster Entertainment was a big success, The many donated prizes helped to draw a crowd of some 250 people from Terrace Bay and Schreiber, Our only regret is that we couldntt have had a prize for everyone who participated, It's old news now but in case someone doesn't know, Bob LaFontaine, held the lucky ticket on the car draw. The hockey executive expresses its sincere gratitude to everyone who purchased a ticket on the car, Thank you for helping us go "over the top." 0-0-0 KIWANIS WINTER KARNIVAL = Sat.
