TERRACE BEATS MARATHON Cont'd, from page 6 s effectiveness almost completely, Until that time Brady was strewing blue shirts all over the ice and was a big thorn in the Superiors' side. That squares our series with Marathon, but there are 4 big games with them left on the schedule, It still looks like a two team race, and if that is correct, each of the 4 remaining Benes is an important one, Ca. % tatSheer WIN OVER NIPIGON HANSEN HERO IN Ray Hansen was the man of the hour Saturday night when twice, within the last 4 minutes he came through with clutch goals. It took Hansen's last ditch heroics to subdue a battling Nipigon team led by a sometimes sensational goalie named auth, While Terrace Bay had the pane in olay most of the night, outshooting Nipigon 44-28, it looked as if the crowd of 452 was going to see Nipigon score its second victory over the local six, Time and time again the Superiors came boring in on Ruth only to be repulsed, The Nipigon defence had our forwards bottled up most of the time limiting them to just one goal, that coming from Marv. Osmar in the first. period with Nipigon a man short. However, with the forwards stopned cold, the defence came to the rescue. Desrosiers banged in a long screened shot in the second period, that veriod's only goal, to tie the score at 2 all.and the score stayed that way until early in the third period when Nipigon's Dupuis bounced a shot off Weaver's mitt into the net to give the visitors a 3-2 lead. And that's the way the score stood until Hansen came through with his last minute heroics. It was a hard earned victory for the Superiors, a great game to win, but a tough one to lose for Nipigon. It was a costly victory though as the Superiors 'lost the services of Ray Stachiw for an estimated 6 weeks due to a dislocated collar bone, The injury resulted when Ray was boarded inthe third period behind the Nipigon net. We wish Ray a speedy recovery and it's needless to say he will be missed. (cont'd. next column) - bickering of a counle Nipigon vlayers. WEAVER S Parte 7 WEAVER BLANKS NIPIGON 7-0 Bob Weaver and his mates on defence were at their best last Sunday afternoon in completely stopping Niovigon 7-0. For Weaver it was his second shutout of the year and his first in this season's North Shore Hockey League schedule. In doing so, he stopped 38 shots as he turned in another fine performance. The game was on the rugged side and play was slowed down a lot by the continued For their efforts Nivigon received 3 misconduct penalties plus a game misconduct given Baxter 'in the second period, So, the visitors not only lost a hockey game, but also the battle of words, The Superiors were' never in trouble vwhile skating away: with this Win as Nipigon just wasn't the same-team it was Seturday night, Moro. had 3 goals and Maurice Osmar got 2 to pace the Suveriors while Whalen and Bond picked,ub a.goal a piece, In addition whalen had: 3 assists. a) maintain his hot scoring pace. Theugh the outcome was never in doubt, there was action a plenty to keev a fine crowd ef 570 en edge, Tempers flared frequently and only the geod efficiating of referee Erwin kept the game under control. x kx & CORES 2nd CONSECUTIVE SHUTOUT The goal tending of Bebby Weaver and the line of Osmar, Whalen and Osmar again proved too much for the Schreiber Colts Tuesday night as Terrace Bay picked uo win number 10, their 8th straight, for the season, downing the Colts 11-0, Schreiber could never solve eur defence but did hold the Superiors to enly 1 goal -in the first period, However, the big line broke loose during the middle stanza as the local six rammed home 7 goals to salt the game away. The game was rough, but Terrace seems to thrive on rough play. As in many games this season, the Suveriors didn't begin to fly until they absorbed some bruises. So long as the victories keep coming our way we won't complain, but one would think the opposition would change their tactics. With his second shutout under his belt, "Jeaver has certainly done 0.K, since the new year began. In 5 games played during 1957 he has allowed just 7 goals and that's great goal tending in any league. It is eskins a lot, but wouldn't it be something should our 9th win in a row be another shutout over Red Rock tonight?
