Ne S. ie LNOTES In the next couple of years Hockey will celebrate its 50th anniversary in Canada. It's governing body - the Canadian Amateur Hockey Association - has introduced each year new rules in the interest and for the protection of referees, players and spectators. Convening leaders of hockey from all provinces of Canada at their Annival, Mestings costs the C.A.H.A. considerable money, The money is not in vain when much thought is given to the betterment of hockey - Canada's favourite wintertime sport, Aside from many items discussed at their last mceting this past spring in Montreal, the C.A.H.A. passed through twenty new rules which become effective this coming season throughout Canada, From the following few new rules it will be noted that the C.A.H.A. concentrates on fast hockey ~ as it should be played - in the interest of spectators; allowing a "break" to penalized teams; and demand- ing respect for all officials, RULE 27(b) - If while a team is short handed by one or more minor penalties the opposing team scores a goal, the first of such penalties shall automatically termine+- When the minor penalties of two players of the same team terminate at the same time the Captain of that team shall designate to the Referee which of such players will return to the ice first, and the Referee will instruct the Penalty Timekeeper accordingly. When a player receives a major penaltv and a minor penalty at the same time, the major penalty shall be served first by the penalized »layer, Note - "Short handed" means that the team must be below the numerical strength of its opponents on the ice at the time the goal is scored, ( cont'd next colum ) mk N.S. NOTES - cont'd - RULE 57 (a) - If a player, except the goal-keeper, closes his hand on the puck, the play shall be stopped and a minor penalty shall be imposed on him, A goalkeeper who holds the puck with his hands for longer than three seconds shall be given a minor penalty, Note - The only exception to this -ule is when a goal~keeper closes his hand on the puck to legally throw it behind the goal, RULE 57 (b) - A goal-keeper must not deliberately hold the puck in any manner which, in the opinion of the referee, causes a stoppage of play nor throw the puck towards his opponents goal or deliberately drop the puck into his pads, nor deliberately pile up snow or other obstacles at or near his net, that in the opinion of the referee would tend to prevent the scoring of 2 goal, The penalty for the infringement of this rule by the goal-keeper shall be a minor penalty, RULE 67 (a) - Any player, coath, manager ur trainer who touches, holds, pushes, atentionally trips or body checks a seferee or minor official during or after a game shall receive a Match Penalty, and shall be reported to the President by the Referee, Such player shall be liable to suspension for not less than three games, RULE 67 (b) = Any player, coach, manager or trainer who strikes a referee or uinor official with his fist, glove, elbow, stick or other offensive object during or after a game shall receive a Match Penalty and shall be reported to the President by the referee, Such a player shall be liable to suspension for a period of not less than one year.
