TERRACE. BAY FIGURE. SKATING CLUB'S "ICE FOLLIES OF '56" OUTSTANDING SUCCESS To the music of "There's No Business Like Show Business" the Terrace Bay Figure Skating Club Saturday, March 24th presented their Ice Frolics of '56, produced and dir- ected by their club professional, Mrs, Ivy Pattison, formerly Miss Ivy Smith, club pro- fessional of the Thunder Bay Figure Skating Club. Ken Weppler, as master of ceremonies, introduced the junior members in Tchaikowsky's "Nut Cracker Suite", the story: of the little girl who falls asleep and dreams an ordinary household nutcracker becomes a handsome prince, who flies with her to the fascinating domain of the Sugar Plum Fairy, where she is ushered to the throne 'to watch the spectacle given in her honour The little girl Claire very gracefully portrayed by Jane Heenan, the Prince by Mary Ellen Reynolds and the. Sugar Plum Fairy Queen by Arlene Coates, Amid a background of Christmas trees and a dancing Cossack, the tiniest tots appeared to give their version of a Chinese Dance for Claire, There were Jane Boudreau, Sharon St. Louis, Janie Valiquette, Susan Graham, Shirley Wade, Barbara Ann Checkryn, Jane Kelty, Catherine Smith, Jo Ann Haviland, Sharon MacDonald, Janie Cumming, Joanne Burella, Mary Clare Coupal, Debra Boyd, Brenda Trudeau and Cathy Jo Cotton, - Soloist was Christine Wig. Four talented junior skaters displayed their skill in the Toy Flute number, being Gail Wood, Wendy Duncan, Janice Coe and Laurie Mae Marcella, A vigorous, swinging Cossack number followed with the first year skaters, Beverly Dodge, Debbie Anderson, Nancy Wade, Suzanne Lemay, Diana Goneau, Pat Simmer, Kay Milks, Karen Moore, Lyn Simmer, Carol Kulcheski, Diane Campbell and Shirley Phillips with Marcia Hamilton as the Leader, Sickness thinning the ranks as in all other numbers the Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairies saw little Pat McCausland, Wendy Keller and Karen Storvold as a dainty wee trio. With Darlene Larson a very assured Soloist, a bevy of beautiful girls gave a sparkling display of group skating to Tchaikowsky's Arabian Dance-+ Ellen Knight, Holly Berndtsson, Linda Nelson, Jacqueline Latour, Marie Delaronde, Bonnie Beddard, Maureen Mann, Donna Fedorak, Mar- garet Ann Pineault, Christine Flater, Karen McKechnie, Gail Burnell, Linda Hall, Molly Harris, Mary Ellen Faust, Peggy Guest, Susan Brooks. bat As a finale to the Nut Cracker Suite, the lovely Waltz of the Flowers with Peggy (Cont. on next col,) Page 1Q TERRACE BAY FIGURE SKATING GLUB (Cont. ) Cavanaugh, Betty Rowson, Peggy Shirriff, Barbara Sweet, Gail Wood, Lynda MacFadyen, Wendy Duncan, Bonnie Thomas, Laurie Mae Marcella, Donna Adamo, Diane Marcotte, Dar~ lene Heinrich, Janice Coe, Velma LeBlanc, Marilyn Marsh and Noreen Scowen, with their petit ballerina Arlene Coates, and Jane Heenan as Claire performing their solos. Turning to the lighter side of the program, two guests from the Port Arthur . Thunder Bay Figure Skating Club, Pat Hanley and Allan McLean gave a riotous performance with their split-second timing and daredevil stunts, Moving along into Jazz tempo Joan Hopper and Sandra Solly stepped out ™ to the "Sunny Side of the Street", Another guest soloist from the Thunder Bay Figure Skating Club - Miss Kay McIver thrilled her audience with a flawless performance, A precision number done up in a Mil-~ itary Mood was the Parade of the Wooden Soldiers with Janice Coe, Judy Thomas, Beverly Louk, Paulette Boudreau, Anita Lafontaine, Velma LeBlanc, Karen Shrier, Peggy Shirriff, Bonnie Thomas, Dolly Louk, Cathy Cavanaugh, Noreen Scowen, Diane Mar- cotte, Bonnie Jean Wilson, Marilyn Marsh and Lynda MacFadyen,. Also a guest for the two performances, Jennifer Jean Wilkin, the little eight- year-old who became the Northwestern Ontario Juvenile Champion of 1956 competing against 12 and 13 year old skaters displayed the | skill which won her the championship in her piece, "Brazilian Sweetheart," Going. back to the Old Neighborhood Pond the next scene was entitled "Winter Fun" with the hockey player, David Roberts; acro= ' batic pair, Gay Roy and Annette Boudreau; figure skaters, Marcia Jeanneret, Linda Hayes, Lana Storvold, Molly McCausland, Elizabeth Hayes, Margaret Dale Locking and Betty Lou Cavanaugh; dancers, Connie Barker, Susan Wig, Mary Ellen Reynolds, Gay Roy, Bella Begin, Jane Heenan, Janice Coe and Annette Boudreau, Before departing the dancers brought on the Snowflake, Gail Wood, in a big sleigh, Gail showed consid- erable promise as she skated to "Miss Susie Snowflake", Dene During the afternoon's intermission Annette Boudreau had the privilege of presenting Mrs, Pattison with a gift on behalf of the club members, while in the evening the honour fell to Barbara Ann Checkryn to make the presentation of a big bouquet of red roses, Following a brief intermission eight of the senior skaters were presented in (Cont. on page 11)
