LOCAL K.C's WIN RECOGNITION St,.. Edward's Council No. 3554 of the Knights of Columbus, embracing the commun- ities of Schreiber, Terrace Bay and Marathon, was highly honoured at the 52nd Annual Ontario State Convention held at Kitchener Ontario, May 2lst-22nd-23rd, where it was awarded third place in.the Best Council. Trophy Contest, Highty-two Councils throughout Ontario were eligible for this contest which emphasized, among other requirements, the successful sponsorship of activities in each of the categories PROMOTION, _CATHOLIC, FRATERNAL and PUBLICITY. In addition, certain standards were required to be met, and maintained, with regard to Membership Enrolment, Audit and Activity Reports. In all, six Councils were recognized for their outstanding achievements and in placing third in this select group the local Council came in for special mention in that it was instituted later than the other winning Councils, A handsome Gavel, suitably inscribed, was presented to Grand Knight Eldon A, Marostica who attended the State Convention as the local Council's delegate, . , The Convention took note of the Local Council's efforts on behalf of the GOOD READING CAMPAIGN, which is dedicated to ridding our newstands of solacious literature, This took the form of a Good Reading Pledge and this action was rec- ommended by the State Board to all Sub- ordinate Councils in Ontario, As in former years, one of the highlights on the agenda of the Convention was the election of delegates to the Supreme Council Convention - this year to be held at Philadelphia, Pa, St. Edward's Council was signally honoured in having E, A, Marostica elected as a delegate to the Supreme Canvention, COLUMBIAN TOURS DRAW WINNERS BE. UNIVERSITY SEMINAR Well-informed youth of today can have a tremendous impact on what Canadians think in the next few years, The Terrace Bay Kiwanis Club has therefore selected Paul Marcella to attend the United Netions University Seminar for High School Students of Manitoba and Northwestern Ontario, to be held in Winnipeg, July 13th, 14th, L5th, oth: and 27th. Support for the ideals of the United Nations depends on a fundamental belief in the brotherhood of man and a knowledge of U.N. activities amongst citizens of member nations.of U.N., the more support governments will receive in their efforts for collective security. It is the special objective of this High School Seminar to assist our youth to a realization of the fact that each individual has a part to play in United Nations organization and that preparation is necessary for res- ponsible world citizenship.
