GUIDES AND BROWNIES ~ A Mother and Daughter Banquet was held in the Hotel Terrace last Saturday evening. Mothers, Guests, Guide Leaders, Brownie Leaders, Guides and Brownies enjoyed a very pleasant evening, There were 124 persons in the gathering. A very charming and interesting programme was presented, Before Dinner the Guides and Brownies sang their grace song; then a toast to the Queen. Between the main course and dessert Mrs, Slattery accompan- ied by Mrs. Rowlandson at the piano, Mrs. Knauff played for the grace and "The Queen', Miss Meek presented Commissioner Maitland. Mrs, Maitland then presented the other Lead table members, After a short talk on the importance of Guides and Brownies, Mrs. Maitland presented the Guest Speaker of the evening Mrs, Bob Harris. Mrs. Harris! talk on Guiding in Ireland was very interesting. The toast to the Mothers was very nicely given by Guide Joan Hopper to which Mrs, Hopper responded. Mrs. Hopper ended her response with this simile - "One thought that I wish to leave with the girls, Have you remembered seeing on a hike the tree leaning toward the water - well - you are the tree, your parents and leaders are the prevailing wind that is causing you - the trees - to bend in the right direction". There was a short programme next with the girls singing their songs etc. The Brownies showed a few of their dances. The Guides rendition of a rain storm received a hearty applause, Commissioner Maitland then presented awards to the girls, Guides - Mary Elizabeth Pedder - 2 year. Service Star and 2nd Class Badge, Service Stars - Sandra Solly, Janet Wells, Donna Brearley, Joan Hopper, Rosemary Long, Helen Dennis, Susan McCaus- Jland, Sandra' Locking, Diane Fontaine, and Rhea LeClair, Brownies - lst Pack - Service Stars Elaine Long, Joan Hopper, Janneane Briggs, Dawn Rowlandson, Jean Stuart, Noreen Scowen, Joan Bouchie, Lillian LeClair Peggy Shirriff, Fay Thornsteinson. A hearty thanks to Mrs, Bill Cavanaugh who convened this banquet, 0-0-0 GUIDE AND BROWNIE VISITOR Miss Mary Horncastle, Provincial Secretary of Training visited Terrace Bay on Monday, May 30th, There was a good attendance at both the Brownie session in the after- noon and the Guide session in the evening. A discussion period was held at both sessions with everyone present learning a little more about Guiding. Refresh- ments were served under the convenorship of Mrs, M. McCausland. Four Guiders and two Local Association members from Marathon attended, Eighteen of our local ladies and Miss Horncastle had dinner at the Hotel Terrace at 6:30. 0-0-0 COOKIES!I3$ COOKIES!33 COOKIESY}4 We are sorry the cookies didn't arrive in time for delivery last Saturday, However, they are here now and the Brownies will be delivering them rightto your door this Saturday, Give these cute kids your support and a smile.
