KIWANIS ESSAY CONTEST Several weeks ago the Kiwanis Club an- nounced the sponsorship of an essay contest in the three schools in Terrace Bay. The title of the essays were to be "What Terrace Bay Means to Mel, The Kiwanis Club allotted three prizes to each school. But now I know what it means to me, With its curved streets, beautiful houses and beautiful trees, it means a place to work and play all year round, In this small town, wherever you go there are always friendly neighbours who help you whenever you need it. There are modern schools where I can learn my education. In Terrace Bay there are Boy Scouts, Cubs, Girl Guides, and Brownies where all the boys and girls who are eight years old and older can make friends and learn about the world around us, In the winter I can play organized hockey, go skiing and tobogganning, have snowball fights and many other things. In the summer it means baseball, swimming, bicycling, hunting and fishing. In this town of Terrace Bay I am very lucky. All around me there is a lot of woods. There are plenty of places and things to hunt and fish, Whenever there is nothing to do I can always go hiking in the bush, On the outskirts' of Terrace Bay is Lake Superior where I can fish and play games, Out of part of Hayes Lake a swimming pool is made and every year I have (Cont. on next col, ) The committee -- Page 5 . By Emma Galvin Terrace Bay with its brightly col- oured houses has an atmosphere about it that makes me feel secure, Security is an important item for any family and in Terrace Bay we have no fear of being in- secure. The clean streets and well kept homes of Terrace Bay are a healthy place to live, The air about us is clean and fresh. This is needed to keep us healthy, I always hear people complaining there is nothing to do. We can find lots to do if we want to do it. People are always needed in Terrace Bay's many organ- izations. When you meet people on the street they usually greet you with a friendly "Hello", This gives you a f Li are liked, : Pag Terrace Bay has a convenient shopping centre, Here you may walk in and find a variety of items, Each store tries to give us the best of service, The land about us has a beauty all of its own. We have a large number of trees of assorted kinds. There is support for a good educa- tion, The teachers are very carefully chosen. Our schools are modern with all the supplies necessary for our use, _Terrace Bay has two beautiful churches to which we may attend, These churches are of modern design and each -a wonderful place to worship. I realize Terrace Bay is a very nice place to live in, It has everything to keep its population happy. Terrace Bay doesn't mean so much to me just because my father has a very good steady job enabling us to shut the word "poverty" out of our minds but it means so much to me for many other reasons also.
