"CERTIFICATE OF ACHIEVEMENT" WON. Based on its accident prevention ex perience dubing the year-1950, the Long- Lac Pulp and Paper Co, Ltd., has been awarded a "Certificate of Achievement" by the National Safety Council in its snnual "Paper Industry Safety Contest"; The contest included some 400 separate units which make up most of the pulp and paper industry in the United States and Canada, The LongLac Mill was awarded the "Certificate of achievement" for reducing its frequency rate from the previous year (56%) and having a rate lower than the average of the group in which it com- peted, The LongLac frequency rate was 5.91 as compared with an industry average of 10.17. Frequency rate is simply the number of on-duty disabling lost-time accidents per million man-hours worked, In 1950, less than 6 men were involved in lost-time accidents at LongLac for every million man hours worked while the industry average was more than 10. News of the award was contained in a letter from the National Safety Council, part of which is es follows: Dear Friends: It is indeed a real pleasure for me to congratulate the 1950 contest winners, The announcement of these top-flight sa- fety performances is now being made through the final contest bulletins and all of you people must be very proud of their achievement, Our heartiest congratulations to cach and every one of you for your fine contri- bution to safety in the industry, Your accomplishments demonstrate your determi- nation to make your plant a safer place in which to work, Sincerely yours, (Signed) Ned.H, Dearborn, President National Safety Council. o-0-0 Page 5 FOR SILE Johnston Outboard Motor, spproximate running time 25 hours.
