Page 6 CREDIT UNION NEWS A Credit Union is as important as the vision of the people who organize it. It may be the means of combating usury. It may be a convenient and humane way of saving money and making loans at low rates, Or it may be the foundation of a better and fuller commnity life. It may be the bridge-head of democracy on the for= bidding coast of finance, What it shall be is up to the members, It is organized like a clubs; one member one vote, with officers elected from the membership, It is organized for a particular group: people working for the same employer: or people who live in the same small community. Membership is open to anyone in the group, regardless of race, colour or creed. The financial soundness of the credit union is safe~guarded in several ways: by incorporation under Provincial law, by a supervisory committee which periodically inspects the books independently of the treasurer, by an annual examination of the books by fed- eral authority and by bonding the treasurer and all other officers who handle moncy, ] Membership applications may be secured from: H, Goodfellow, R, Ostling, J. Four teams competed in the first round, each team comprising of 6 members and each firing a ten shot target, Several perfect scores were recorded and a 99 shot by Doris MacKay helped spur the boys along. Other targets shot by lady members of the teams were very good and the men will have to keep on their toes to make a showing, Gordon Page's #2 team outshot Paul Boudreau's #6 team 574 to 435 and #1 team led by Ken MacKay won over Mac Vanatter's #5 team 572 to 531, Your reporter regrets the omission of the name of Harry Byers as a member of the Social Committee elected at the last meeting - Sorry, Harryt Please don't forget the Chicken Shoot scheduled to start at 2:30 pam. on Sunday, January 29th at the Range, A good supply of choice dressed birds will be shot for, Keen competition is expected as quite a few of the "experts" have been in lining up their rifles and getting in some extra practice.
