When our record is compared with the average established by new mills in recent years during their first calendar year of actual operation we come to the conclusion that there are at least 70 LongLac employees on the payroll at the present time who were spared the pain, suffering, loss of pay and disruption of plans usually ac- companying disabling lost-time accidents. And any one of us might have been among the 70, That's the important point to emphasize for prevention of accidents is not the abstract thing that some people believe it to be. Accident prevention deals with human beings, helps individuals to live and work without being maimed or killed, It is with considerable satisfaction that we are all able to look back on "the wonderful safety record accomplished ..... which is unparalled in the history of the Pulp and Paper industry for the first year of operations", as stated by William H, Burnell, First Vice-President of the International Brotherhood of Pulp Sulphite and Paper Mill Workers in a telegram to us, But what of the future? The year coming up, 1950, is another year! We must con- tinue to -prevent accidents and decrease the frequency with which they occur....and that's everybody's job!4 Our ultimate objective is to eliminate accidents completely....to have a frequency of zero, Our 1950 objective is to cut our frequency to 6,5....half that of 1949, i/ith everyone's help it can be donel At Terrace Bay we CAN have "Production with Safety" ° Reo stele 933 NEXT WEEK'S SAFETY SLOGAN ------____(8:00 am.
